Microsoft confirms Windows 7 SP1 RTM, released to OEMs today
-
i have the SP1 RTM, so does this mean i don't need to download the final release? And does this also mean it won't pop up on windows update to download?
If, when you right-click 'Computer' and go to Properties it says Windows 7 Service Pack 1 with nothing added after the '1' then it's the final.
See the first picture attached (click to enlarge).
* Click Start, type regedit and press Enter to open the Windows registry
* Navigate to the registry key – HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion
If it looks like the attached picture #2 (click to enlarge) then it's the final SP1.
The downloads are quite big, don't forget they include every update since day 1 plus whatever software improvements in the meanwhile.
I downloaded the ISO's and they are 903MB for the x64 and 537MB for the x86 version.

In early March according to sources

Guys,
Win7 is not in beta, but all updates past RTM will be included in SP2. A lot of updates before release of SP1 were marked SP1 when installed because they were part of SP1.
Once a KB becomes an official service pack file it will keep the same article number but will change file version.
This was the case for KB976932 Wave 0 was 6.1.7601.16562 RC flavor was 6.1.7601.17105 RTM 6.1.7601.17514. Same KB article.

Hmmm. I thought it was coming sooner than that. I had planned to reinstall the OS around it. Guess I'll have to press on without it.

Early March is right, unfortunately for those waiting for the official release.

Don't worry about it if you can't find it.

When it's officially released I'll use it to create a Win 7 Pro. 64 bit SP1 disc :) (I got no disc with my home premium 64 bit purchase, but I did get one when I paid for the Pro. 64 bit upgrade.)
