Source: New Features for Windows Embedded Standard 2009 - SoftpediaAlthough Microsoft has been offering a Windows 7-based embedded and componentized version for quite some time now, the company continues to tend to customers still running older versions of Windows Embedded.
According to the software giant, two new features are available to customers running predecessors of Windows Embedded Standard 7, namely Enhanced Write Filter Provider and File Based Write Filter Provider.
Lynda Allen, Microsoft Embedded program manager notes that the new enhancements are designed to kick up a notch Windows Embedded Standard 2009.
At the same time, customers still on Windows XP Embedded (Windows XPe) can also update their copies of the operating system, but only as long as they’re running the latest upgrade offered, Service Pack 3 (SP3).
“These new components provide access to the respective Write Filter API through the Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) layer,” Allen revealed.
“The goal of each feature is to expose the full functionality of the Write Filter to all .NET languages as well as to the Windows Scripting Host. Furthermore, the Write Filter Providers enables remote management of the Enhanced Write Filter or File Based Write Filter.”
