Given that the version 4.0 does not get an official 64-bit build, I am all for pushing the next version faster, as long as the 64-bit builds finally become official. Other than that, I don't see any need for new versions right now. Are there any new ideas I haven't heard of? Any new features?

Sounds like the new numbering scheme could be a marketing gimmick unless there are significant changes between the releases.

We will find out over the next 12 months or so.

It would be something if they were really true next version upgrades.
I have to agree! I saw another similar blog suggesting a 7.0 version by the end of the year. It sounded more like a gimic however just to say: "we're working fast on development of the next... blah blah blah".

Forget Firefox 4.0, Firefox 4.2 Already Cooking

Just a few days after the global availability of Firefox 4.0, Mozilla is already offering early adopters a taste of the next version of its open source browser.

And despite what has already been said, the successor of Firefox 4.0 is not Firefox 5.0. As I told you earlier this month, Mozilla will provide an interim iteration of Firefox, version 4.x.

And it now appears that it’s safe to switch that “x” with the number “2.”

Early adopters that know what testing a nightly build of Firefox implies can download a preview of the first post-4.0 version of the open source browser.

How is the new Alpha? Are Add-On's working o.k. with it? I turned off auto update on the last day of 4.0b13pre until I hear some feedback about 4.2a1pre.

    Thanks
