Pre-release Windows 8 code hits PC makers

    Microsoft prepping IE 10, already?

Microsoft's webOS luvvin' partner HP is among the PC manufacturers getting copies of early Windows 8 code, according to reports.
HP and other Windows PC OEMs are reported to be getting builds of Microsoft's next desktop operating system known as milestone 3 – seriously pre-beta stuff.
They're sucking down the code through Microsoft's Connect external testing system.

    Hi there
any screenshots leaked to "the wild" yet. Wzor are you still around ?

The reason I'm curious is I just can't see what could be seriously improved over W7.

Of course there are always minor changes such as possibly a better way of adding drivers for special hardware or allowing more flexibility with customising the desktop and Window behaviour such as per Linux GNOME / KDE but as a major release it's difficult to visualize what is coming next.

I know that they have to add support for "Keyboardless" computers but as I don't like touch screens that won't interest me either.

Anyway a sneak preview would be great.

    Cheers

Windows 8 preview build now available for OEMs

The version made available is called Windows 8 and Server vNext Pre-Release Program (build 7971.0.110324-1900). It is only available through the Microsoft Connect system and only with an invite code. So while this isn’t a release that’s going to be publicly available, it does suggest Microsoft is nearing completion of the operating system. It is also believed a beta of Windows 8 could appear by September.

While Windows 7 was all about repairing confidence, Windows 8 is about expanding the platforms the OS can run on while embracing 3D. Windows 8 will run on the ARM architecture, a first for Microsoft’s main desktop OS. It is also expected to have the option of a fully-3D interface if you have the hardware to support it.

Software development is very rapid. For instance: Bethesda started working on Oblivion, which came out in 2006, the day Morrowind development finished in 2002. They then proceeded to release 2 expansion packs while still working on Oblivion, then released Oblivion. Skyrim development started before Oblivion was even finished.
