Windows 7 finally overtakes Windows XP's marketshare in the US Quote: Windows 7 is Microsoft's fastest selling operating system to date. It is now one and a half years old, yet it reached several key milestones quickly. Last August, its marketshare surpassed that of its older brother Windows Vista, and this past December its marketshare was sitting at 25%, while its decade-old elderly sibling Windows XP plummeted to 50%. Starting from this month, it finally managed to surpass Windows XP - it now sits at 31.8% while Windows XP is at 31.55%. The catch? This milestone is just for computers in the United States. However, the growth rates of Windows 7's marketshare and the decline of Microsoft's decade-old operating system remain constant globally and within the United States Neowin.net - Windows 7 finally overtakes Windows XP's marketshare in the US | My System Specs |

today the us, tomorrow the world! (evil laughter etc)
although i suppose that win 7's rise is due to the amount of new pcs/laptops/netbooks being bought - and i would imagine the rest of the world doesn't buy new computers as much as the good old us of a.

Yes, but MS has got massive challenges.
The days of the old 90 per cent market dominance and ever rising share price are long gone.
They might be able to capture a chunk of the mobile market thru the alliance with Nokia - if they pitch it right.
The words Bolted , Horse and stable door spring to mind.
Strange, really - I believe ms were on the case ( with tablet type devices ) 10 years back - don't know how they managed to miss the boat. | My System Specs | | OS Vista x64 / 7 X64 CPU E8400 Motherboard ASRock 1333 GLAN R2.0 Memory 2x1 gb 800mhz Graphics Card 9500gt 1gb Case Coolermaster Cooling Winpower 500w Hard Drives Maxtor 160gb-2mb cache |

this is great news when I see XP machines, I think 'sigh, get with the times and move on'. Yes, XP was an awesome OS, but it's time has been and gone. I often have full-time Linux users whining at me "eurgh, it's so featureless" oh yeah? well let's look at the state of Linux ten years ago. People need to learn that Windows 7 is their current attempt, as is IE8 (IE9 is a featureless firefox 4 ripoff). Let's continue in our global effort to get XP and IE6 off people's machines | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number [NEW PC :D] HP Pavilion p6565uk OS Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit CPU AMD Phenom II X6 1035T @2.6GHz (hexacore) (=15.6GHz) Motherboard FOXCONN (2AA9) Memory 6GB DDR3-1333 (running at 1066) Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce GT 230 (1.5GB) Sound Card Realtek HD Audio (with 5.1 surroundsound always on) Monitor(s) Displays HP 2311x (primary), Sharp LL-T1620-H (secondary) Screen Resolution 1924x1080 Keyboard Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 2000+ HP Media Centre Remote Mouse Microsoft Wireless Mouse 2000 PSU 500W Case Stock HP one that came with it, mid-size ATX Cooling Stock fans, they're fairly quiet. - HP deskjet 3050A
- Two HP ZV5000 laptops (the better of the two recently broke)
- A Compaq Evo D310 (has 2GB RAM and a 2.53GHz P4 but is curiously extremely slow)
- A desk fan - this weather is warm ;)
- A fair few retro consoles
- Too many cables behind the desk, probably a hazard. |

About time. I was in the minority as I was never a fan of XP. I hung on to Windows 2000 until about 2004 (when XP SP2 came out) then jumped to Vista right away upon its release. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Professional x64 SP1 CPU Intel Core i5-2500K Motherboard Gigabyte P67X-UD3-B3 Memory 8 GB Corsair Vengeance Blue DDR3-1600 Graphics Card Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 1 GB GDDR5 Monitor(s) Displays Samsung SyncMaster T220HD Screen Resolution 1680x1050 PSU Corsair 650W Hard Drives 120 GB Corsair Force SSD + 320 GB Seagate Barracuda SATA2 + 2 TB My Book Elite Internet Speed 50 Mbps Windows 7 finally overtakes Windows XP's marketshare in the US problems?
