Would it be a "Google-wants-everything" mutation?
Exclusive: Microsoft Has Acquisition Deal With Nvidia -- InformationWeek
Not sure I like this. I'm in favor of hardware and software vendors staying separate so we can continue having options and competition.
ATI? Well ok this may be good. Now Nvidia-no this is not right.
maybee there wil be an upside if this happens, better quality controll of computers and possibly an increase in stock.
Ugh... I like microsoft and I like nvidia but I don't like this.
Very surprising actually. I would have figured Intel would have gone for it to counter AMD/ATI merger.
Though.. if it were between MS and Apple... sigh.
This "deal" is part of a decades old contract between MS and Nvidia and only kicks in if some other party attempts to buy 30% or more of Nvidia. Sort of a anti takeover tactic.

I think this has to do with Microsoft being worried about the tablet gpu side of things, and that if say Apple take attempts a takeove of Nvidia, they could be in a bind for gpu's for their tablets....
Nvidia's ARM-based Tegra chip is widely used by a number of major mobile device manufacturers. It's employed in Google Android-based tablets and smartphones from Samsung, Motorola, and others. Microsoft itself earlier this week demonstrated Windows 8 tablets running on the new, quad-core "Kal-El" versionThere's also been rumblings over the past couple of years that Apple views Nvidia as a possible takeover target. Apple's A5 CPU for the iPad 2 uses ARM's system-on-a-chip design, an architecture in which Nvidia has considerable expertise as Tegra also relies on ARMBottom line is it's about Apple taking over Nvidia and leaving Microsoft high and dry in the tablet department. Something Apple would surely love to do.The deal could be extremely valuable to Microsoft. Any acquisition of Nvidia by a rival could deliver another setback to the software maker's significantly delayed tablet plans. Conversely, if Microsoft took control of Nvidia it could maintain a tighter grip on its supply chain for mobile components.
This is extremely bad news... Microsoft GeForce GTX 680.... *shivers* The worst nightmare would be Apple buying it instead. 1500$ graphic card... yeeeaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh....
Meh, don't mind at all. Would be interesting to see that happen though.
