If I may (happily) contradict you here, the foremost PC of the 80s by far (in implementation, not in sales), the Amiga, WAS a gaming PC inherently by design. The graphics co-processor with multiple hardware-based screen image buffers and hardware-based multiple cursors were not there to help implement Lotus 1-2-3.
