Windows 7 Soon To Become The Most Common OS (Finally) Quote: Even though Windows 7 rocks the socks off the decade-old XP and the lackluster ball of consumer disappointment known as Vista, Microsoft has had a hard time convincing PC users to make the switch to their new (well, two years old) operating system. When 2011 first rolled around, less than one in ten North American PCs rocked Redmond's latest offering. Expect that number to look a whole lot different by New Year's; one leading analytical firm says Windows 7 will be the most common OS in the world by the time 2012 rears its ugly head. Well, it doesn't surprise me Shawn.
We have four computers dotted around our apartment and sharing data with Windows 7's Homegroup has been a breeze.
I always thought XP was good, but 7 beats it hands down in my view. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP Pavilion Elite 495UK OS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-Bit CPU Intel Core i7 870 @ 2.93GHz Motherboard MSI 2A9C (CPU1) Memory 8Gb Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 664MHz Graphics Card nVidia GeForce GTX 460 1024MB dedicated RAM Sound Card Realtek HD Audio Monitor(s) Displays HP2310i Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 Keyboard Logitech K750 solar-powered keyboard Mouse Logitech Wireless M180 mouse PSU 460W Case HP Elite Cooling Air cooled Hard Drives 1x1954GB Hitachi HDS22020ALA 330 (RAID), 1x1954GB Hitachi External for backup and storage Internet Speed 2Mb Other Info Pure Avanti Flow Internet Radio with iPod Dock, 64Gb iPod, HP USB Speakers, Sony MDR-V500 Headphones, Sony Vaio F-Series Laptop |

I like the sound of this. Even though 8 will probably release next year, people will still be up-to-date with 7. I might even stick with 7, it's caused nothing wrong in my experience with it. | My System Specs | | OS Ultimate x64 SP1 CPU AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Motherboard Asus M4A89GTD Pro Memory Corsair XMS3 8GB DDr3 1600MHz Graphics Card XFX AMD Radeon HD 6950 2GB (Shaders Unlocked) Sound Card Asus Xonar DX Monitor(s) Displays Acer V243HAObd Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Mionix Zibal 60 Mouse Mionix Naos 5000 PSU Cooler Master GX650 Case Silverstone Raven 3 RV03B-W Cooling Akasa AK-CCX-4002HP Venom Hard Drives Seagate 320GB - WD Caviar Black 1TB @ SATA III 6Gb/s - WD Caviar Blue 500GB SATA-III 6Gb/s Internet Speed 31+MB/s Down, 3+MB/s Up Other Info Roccat Kave Solid 5.1 Headphones, Blue Yeti microphone and Mionix Alioth 400 mousemat. |

It's about time. It's the best O/S I have ever used. I still have people that just won't try Windows 7. There's nothing wrong with xp. If it is running fine and current machine is fast enough for you, then there is no point upgrading. But when it comes to buy a new machine, it makes sense to upgrade. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Professional 64bit |

Well, "most common" is a matter of definition. I think Symbian is still the most common OS and Android is quickly catching up. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP, Dell, Gateway - 2 laptops and 2 desktops OS Vista and Windows7, sometimes Ubuntu and Fedora CPU from 1.6GHz Duo to 2.5GHz Quad Monitor(s) Displays 2x HP w2207 Keyboard with trackball - no mices Mouse terrible devices, who wants them Hard Drives 5x HDD, 2x SSD, 6x Externals Internet Speed DSL 6000 |

Gartner: 94 Percent of New PCs Will Ship with Windows 7 in 2011 Quote: The Apple Mac is steadily grabbing market share, but Windows-based systems continue to dominate the worldwide personal computer market, according to a new Gartner study.
The report is good news for Microsoft, which has taken its licks lately in the mobile computing market. Redmond's well-received but slow-selling Windows Phone 7 OS has yet to catch on among consumers, who are snapping up Apple iOS and Google Android handsets like crazy. Source
