Samsung officials are denying rumors that Samsung plans to take over HP’s PC business. This comes as HP, the No. 1 vendor of Windows PCs, contemplates selling its PC business.

Well, I guess that settles that.

In a short and sweet post to the official Samsung Global Electronics “Samsung Tomorrow” blog on August 24, unnamed Samsung officials said:

“The recent rumors that Samsung Electronics will be taking over Hewlett-Packard Co.’s personal computer business are not true.

“We hope this clarifies any confusion that may have occurred.”

Yep. That is definite corporate speak for "no way in hell" !

I'm thinking it IS possible that there are enough people within HP to buy the division, I would think this would be the best scenario because those people have the most to lose if the division gets sold and dismantled.

Maybe they will rename the new company "Compaq". A smaller more agile and dynamic company that could still draw on the services of HP possibly. I see this is the best chance for the PSG to survive and thrive. They need to streamline the product offerings, and increase the hardware quality while limiting the bloatware .

Other less beneficial takers would be:

Microsoft?

AMD?

Google?

It would take too long to explain why I chose them but they would seem to be good pairings each bringing something to the table that the other needs.

That's Samsung Electronics saying no, not necessarily Samsung. And 'Unnamed sources' at that.

It's entirely feasible that another existing or newly created subsidiary could take over. Same parent, new brand or option to retain the current one. Then again, they may have crunched the numbers and decided it was not worthwhile for them. So 'no' could actually mean 'no.

When these big corporations say yes or no, it's wise not to take the first answer as gospel. Either way it will be interesting what develops.

There are other possible company's to do take overs, especially MS considering they are plotting to take quite a few company's over.

I am an HPQ shareholder and bought an HP desktop last Christmas and I was a bit disappointed by HP's announcement.

It would have been like Zenith getting out of the TV business in the 1960s.
