F11 and F12 Donít Work When Installing x64 Windows 7 SP1 on an EFI-based PC

Some customers running computers leveraging the Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI) technology instead of BIOS might come across issues with the F11 and F12 keys when installing a 64-bit (x64) version of Windows 7 Service Pack 1.

Microsoft has confirmed the problem officially, and is noting that x64 Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 can also be impacted in the same type of scenario.

Pressing either F11 or F12 during the deployment of Windows 7 SP1 or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 does absolutely nothing, the software giant said.

I read through the article in your link, and I'm still somewhat confused. I got the impression that the only way to have EFI/UEFI is for it to be implemented by the motherboard manufacturers, and I found nothing Googling for AMD processors... only Intel. Am I right?

(U)EFI has Intel as one of the companies (lead?) designing this standard. Many of this "new" EFI stuff for the x86/x64 arch were first developed on the Itanium arch.

Not surprising why is AMD "left aside", one should expect UEFI for AMDs very soon. It just didn't achieved too much hype yet, but so far it sounds like what BIOS should be next.

Meanwhile, yes, you are right.
