Kind of like how I bought Star Wars on VHS then Laserdisc then DVD and now on BluRay. Much less all the extended special edition versions and don't even get me started on my music collection. I can't wait for W8 to hit and learn what it will hold for the future but as mentioned before, it may turn out to be the best time to grab W7 discounted?

Some of the features look good. But I am not a fan of the Metro UI. I seriously hope that is optional. I do like the quick boot though.

MS needs to bring out new product or die, understandable. Me, I don't need to upgrade simply to have the "latest." I passed on Vista, and may well pass on Win 8; not saying definitively I'll do so but....

Right now I don't like the Metro look and I don't have a touch screen. If I want a Windows Phone, well I'll buy one. I'd stay in the traditional desktop mode so Windows 8 will have to offer other things (besides a Store swipe icon in the GUI) I want that Seven can't do before I'd consider upgrading.

I'll wait and see.

I'm certain it has already been mentioned by MS.

You will have your choice of two UI. The metro phone style, or the traditional desktop layout that probably will look quite a bit like Win 7 just slightly evolved .

I do hope somebody will address the possible bloat factor of having two IU options though, anyone have an opinion on this.

Could you explain a bit further? Only one UI runs at a time, right?

Because they want to compete in the non-desktop space as well. Then also want "One windows to rule them all".

Windows 7 is great on the desktop but has scant little for tablets. When Windows 8 is finalized it will be running on desktops, laptops, tablets, phones and the next version of the xbox.

And (possibly unfortuantely) the rapid pace of the non-desktop area is requiring a rapid response for microsoft who is now already vanishingly far behind in just the last two years in the non-desktop/laptop spaces.

HHHMMMM...

I just downloaded and installed the Windows 8 Developer's Preview, here is the links for those interested:

Windows Metro Style Apps Developer Downloads

First impression...I don't like it as well as Windows 7...I will play with it and not judge too quickly but...

If you would like to see it with the Windows 7 Start Menu I found this:

To get back the old start menu, open regedit, goto
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer
change value of RPEnabled from "1" to "0"

I saw the UI. I wouldn't use the term "evolved" for the interface unless you call bubble gum cutting edge. The UI, to me, looks like it was designed for pre-teens or McDonalds' cashiers. I have never liked the cartoon look and I hope MS supports Windows 7 as long as they've supported XP because I'm not going to Win8 with that interface. I'll keep Seven until it's no longer supported. I most likely won't be able the read the screen and be drooling on my keyboard by then so it won't matter. Just my take on the "new" look.

Awful Colours

The colour scheme is awful.

In Windows 7, the scheme is fairly soothing.
In Windows 8, I find the colour of those giant buttons jarring.

I found a leaked Windows 8 Alpha(?), but although it would install, it wouldn't run in a VM.
Thanks to z3r010 and Boastree.
Not the beta, but here is a version you can play with.

I too am guilty of following the crowd and padding M$ financial statements. No more as I am tired of the dog and pony show.
Windows 7 has been a perfect fit for me and what I do and want to accomplish so to run out and buy 8 with a few more
frills and colors is not in my game plan.

Hence............my 2 cents worth.

My first days with a Windows 8 phone
I became adventurous and spent $79 for a Windows 8 phone. I said to myself what can you lose, I spent similar money for a USB stick. But what I can gain is some experience - as if I needed that at my age, LOL. My first impressions are mixed. There are really 3 parts to it. 1. The Nokia part...
