I guess that would make Bill Gates the modern Tesla? After all most everybody uses Windows much like we all use alternating current. I don't foresee Bill dying alone penniless and fading into obscurity though.

Perhaps the final tribute is that all the college students returned here to Boston now seem to have Apples. It's def a status symbol.

RIP Steve China Jobs, the modern Edison.
If MS invested in the Apples (Steve Jobs) recovery, you can bet your bottom dollar that MS somehow made out like a champ. They did not do that just because it was the "right thing to do".

Yes. Office for Mac was one big result, plus other stuff. Don't know how much of a return MS got back (some of it is impossible to determine - like how do you quantify lawsuits that never happened?) but it's been a heck of a lot more than they put in.

The modern Edison.

I'd be insulted. Then again it may fit.

Since Edison took credit for other peoples inventions that were developed in his labs.

A lot of people own Apple products and/or iGoods. Copied by many others.

Jobs had an impact for better or worse.
Better mostly ??????

I don't have any Apple products. Never have.

It is sad and tragic that he died at such an early age. Personally, I am dismayed by all of the idol worship being bestowed on him. While it can't be denied that he was a successful businessman who lead Apple to great success, all the stuff being attributed to him is amazing. Take the iPod for instance, Steve jobs didn't invent it, heck Apple didn't even invent the digital music player, it was invented by a guy in England back in the 70's, who even invented the basic concept of iTunes. Yes, Apple made it a commercial success but it wasn't invented there and certainly wasn't invented by Steve Jobs. There's no way I would compare Steve to Edison.

This is reminiscent of when Princess Diana died and what a saint she was made out to be. In reality, she was a spoiled, rich, woman who never had to lift a finger to do anything her entire life and contributed nothing to the world.

Just to clarify I had tongue firmly in cheek when referring to him earlier as "Steve China Jobs, the modern Edison."

Since then more has come out about how he would meet employees in elevators and bully them about "What have you done for Apple lately?, then if the response wasn't sufficient they would be fired often by the time they got back to their office.

Never heard any stories like that about the guy, but its not the least bit surprising. Powerful people like Jobs or Bill Gates have no trouble crapping on the little guy. Thats how they get to be so powerful in the first place. Apple and Microsoft have an uncanny resemblance to dictatorships.
