It looks like there won't be a browserless version of Windows 7, after all.
Microsoft said late Friday that it won't ship the Windows 7 "E" version of Windows even though Europe has yet to sign off on its revised plan. The plan calls for the company to ship Windows 7 with Internet Explorer, but present a ballot screen in which users in Europe can decide whether they want Internet Explorer or another browser.
Call me visionary if you want:) There's gnashing of teeth and wailing going on right now. The Eu committee is letting MS sweat so they can get the most out if it. But the ballotscreen is fine and i guess that part will okayed once all input from the competitors has been evaluated.
The competition has a valid point when they state that the IE logo is now so firmly imprinted on everybodies mind that it's synonym for Internet and will be a almost subconscious automatic choice.
This is a much better solution, particularly for newbies.
Yes it is definitely good news for a lot of people.
The only downside is no call outs for a 'broken' o/s....
I totally disagree with EU policy and whining competition.
Every kid associates a big yellow M to hamburgers and french fries.
So what?
We don't hear any complaint from burger king asking to remove the M, now do we.
I can only commend MS on it's business vision.
On one hand EU want's free market, on the other hand they impose restrictions and sanctions when you do too well compared to others.
Kind of ambivalent if you ask me.
The end user always could and always can install another browser, so what's the big deal?

i appreciate your point squonksc. I guess i'll refrain from turning this thread into a EU/MS discussion. I pissed off enough people already
