I was thinking about selling my I7 2600K but I can run my chip at 5.3 GHz stable so I don't think I will ge any higher then that. I brought it down to 5.0 GHz and any more would be worthless for real life use. I wish they would sell the K series chips with no heatsink. This would help bring the price down. Because who uses the stock heat sink on the K series? Realy?

I would give it a try and only replace it if I had a proven heat problem. I have stock heatsinks on my oc'd Q9550 and my oc'd E8400

I don't know why they spend money releasing a CPU with a 100MHz difference from the CPU right below. Meh.
Because obsessive compulsive computer enthusiasts will want that extra 100Mhz.
We all have our obsessive... Just like those obsessive compulsive people who worry about obsessive compulsive people's obsessiveness

I tend to agree. I gave the stock cooler a go and without over clocking and good case cooling and thought it ran a bit hot. I bought a low cost Hyper 212+ and it dropped the temps 10-15 Celcius. I can run a Handbrake encode for a couple of hours (100% x 8 threads) and keep the Tcore below 60 C.

Yeah if you're even thinking about overclocking a aftermarket cooler might be better. Hmmm.... hope they don't stop supplying stock CPU coolers as a cost cutting method seeing how most of us just discard them in favor of an aftermarket cooler anyway. But that's a discussion for another day.

Seems they might be headed this direction ..

All of the socket 2011 CPUs will be boxed without a CPU cooler, and Intel will be selling thier own AIO liquid coolers as a separate purchase.

Although this may be be limited to just the 2011 CPUs, I do wonder if it may become a new business model for all future CPUs.
