Firefox faces uncertain future as Google deal apparently ends

It hasn’t been a good year for Firefox. Mozilla has lost share to Google, it’s lost the loyalty of enterprise customers, and it’s lost key talent. And a deal with Google that supplied 84% of its revenue last year was scheduled to end in November. Can Firefox avoid a slide into irrelevance?
The article stated that revenue was from search revenues and the agreement with Google was due to expire in November but Mozilla expected to renew that contract. But knowing Google they will screw Mozilla if they can.

We currently have partnerships with a number of search providers that differ by market. Our largest contract, with Google, comes up for renewal in November. We have every confidence that search partnerships will remain a solid generator of revenue for Mozilla for the foreseeable future.
And when asked:
On December 1, I asked Mozilla PR for news on whether the agreement with Google was renegotiated or whether the foundation has any further update to that FAQ. I received a crisp reply:
We currently do not have an update to share.
With Google having their own browser to tout, it becomes a question of whether it benefits them more to renew the deal or not. This could be interesting. A Guy
dont tell me i have to go back to safari... (mac user lol) .. even if firefox charged, i think its loyal supporters will pay a small fee. i certainly wouldnt bat an eye lid at a £10 license for something i use for several hours a day.

Hi all
I looked at the hype surrounding Google Wave.
I'm not convinced I would go for this type of application -- for me Email is Email -- that's ALL I need it for.
I'm not sure I'd want a "Big Brother" type application echoing my keystrokes to all and sundry as I type them in any case.
