Windows 7: ATTENTION Crucial M4 SSD owners

Hiyya Derek thats a real neat feature / function - thanks but I found mine is 0309! and I thought I had changed it when I installed it but obviously not. So perhaps it might explain the couple of blueys I've had lately?

Hi John, I'm not sure about your "blueys", you should have one of the BSOD team look at your dumps.

Some are not pleased with 000F firmware so I guess that's your decision to make.

I would want to know the cause of the BSOD's if I were you though.

Ok Derek I'll take a shot of the next bluey - it was one of those Windows encountered a problem ones and I didn't have my camera with me at the time. I did a sweep with the Microsoft Malicious remover but it came up with nothing - that was because shortly before the blue I got a message when looking at mail to say there had been some suspicious activity on the machine.

I rebooted and nothing else happened the only thing I had to do was reset my ID and password in Windows Live.

The firmware I shall leave as is but probably this is the last Crucial I shall buy - my Samsung 830's are performing better anyway. I have yet to test the SanDisk yet so that will be interesting and I'll be doing that soon as I want to try the beta 2013 Kaspersky ISS on another test machine.

John, for the BSOD's it would be better for you to post in the crashes thread. This will tell you how, it has much more info than the blue screen. Those dump files are like Klingon to me, but there are experts here to help.

Ok Gary was away from home at the time so couldn't get a shot of the thing - I might have saved the error number on a bit of paper somewhere but it was left where I was and probably cleaned up now.

Then again it's not my main OS drive any more so I haven't had any impact. Chances are there'll be another firmware in the works.

But really I can't tell the difference in day to day running.

Yeah, it's like most benchmarks - what it scores and what you notice are usually two separate things.

It's still quick and stable and that's all that matters in the end.

To be honest I have Samsung 830's in my other machines and it is hard to pick which is the quickest - M4 or 830 - you'd have to be a machine to see anything different in speed.

I am looking forward to testing a SanDisk Extreme in the next test build - will be interesting to see how it shapes up cos the ad figure as match the Samsung as far as I can make out.
