The media has used it's biased influence to keep the country split basically down the middle.
This is by design, not by accident, many people still hold to what their favorite networks tell them, even though they know full well it's all a bunch of nonsense. There is no significant difference between our political parties. They are both headed down the same path at this point. One wants to pay for the rich the other wants to pay for the poor, and they both seem completely ridiculous to me. Playing on people's bigotries and fears to maintain this deadlock.

Don't even get me started on how the media has had the results of the last 8 presidential elections before the votes had actually been counted.

One thing to consider is most the news channels stopped reporting the news many years ago. Now they are all editorial and opinion. Designed with the specific purpose of keeping us all at odds with each other until they have managed to erode away the last of our rights and freedoms. The whole time the media will just keep telling you the 'real issues'.

The problem goes far deeper than the news channels, it goes to the core values of everyone. One might say that these values are a product of misinformation, but it can also be said that the misinformation is a result of the values. It is kind of like asking which came first...the chicken or the egg? If one looks back to find where the root sprouted, they would have to be very, very far sighted. Yet, in the myopic view of the last century or so, the current miasma began breeding in the Hollywood's output of viral infestations.

Some might prefer to see the problems as unrelated distinct issues, but in reality they are all factions of an underlying malignancy which is within all people. Somewhat like most doctors, all we can do is to treat the symptoms, rather the the real illness (the prognosis is not good). I shall not go into that cause, because it would require treading where no forum members are allowed, but staying with the tempo of this thread, I will say that it shouldn't be too difficult to see a connection with Hollywood's attempts to "protect" their means of influence and profit to the actions or lack of action in the news media and politics.

The copyright spying enforcement isn't what bothers me so much, it's the fact that they now have the Permission TO SPY ON ALL OF US is what bothers me the most.

I mean where does this end?

The patriot act and government spying wasn't bad enough I suppose, now they are giving the power to our own ISP's to spy on us all....really?

I wonder how many more excuses they will make up in order to circumvent the privacy rights of the people which are supposed to be guaranteed by constitution.

Be careful, at the rate things are going that kind of talk will get you locked up.
Let them try, they can lock up the rest of country while they are at it. It will be a very crowded jail cell.

Ignoring a nuclear bomb won't negate its effects upon you.

...as troublesome as we all know it to be, we may actually have to do something.

I feel there is one more thing I must stress.
There are no religious politicians, not a one.
No one with a true belief in god would commit such criminal acts with such disregard.

@ Anak - delighted to see you quoting that.

Few people understand how important it is to stand up for others.

Even over the small things in life.

If you don't, then little by little, choice and freedom are eroded - by the time you realise- it is too late.

Martin Niemöller: "First they came for the Socialists..."

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me--and there was no one left to speak for me.

I think it started with the World Wars propaganda.

That was a factor, but it started far before that.

The reason that you can't think of anything earlier, is because you aren't seeing things as I do. I have already said that I shall not delve too far into the big picture, but I will say that the beginning of all our problems today, go back to Adam and Eve.
