American ISPs to launch massive copyright spying scheme on July 12

    Posted: 15 Mar 2012
If you download potentially copyrighted software, videos or music, your Internet service provider (ISP) has been watching, and they’re coming for you.

Specifically, they’re coming for you on Thursday, July 12.

That’s the date when the nation’s largest ISPs will all voluntarily implement a new anti-piracy plan that will engage network operators in the largest digital spying scheme in history, and see some users’ bandwidth completely cut off until they sign an agreement saying they will not download copyrighted materials.

Any other business or person would be on their own to find and prosecute anyone committing a crime against them, but Hollywood has the governments and ISP to do their work for them. The deeper all of this goes, the less that I have any empathy for them. If they were truly hurting from lost sales, they wouldn't have such deep pockets to lobby with. I'm still trying to figure why the ISPs are tossing their hats into the ring?

the only reason why they are hurting is because half the crap they put out is crap - both movies and music

curious who will be exempt from the witch hunt - wonder how this will affect their market share and if customers and websites alike will protest this. Maybe don't go to the movies, buy music, and disconnect internet for a couple months?

    see what really hurts?

Personally, I don't think that anyone should wait for the witch hunt. even if they never downloaded any illegal video or music files. If their ISP is one of those that have said that they will take part, and they have an alternative ISP available, they should change their service NOW! I believe that would cause them to wake up and smell the daisies.

These "industries" just need to die already. What are they trying to protect anyway? I can't remember the last good movie I've seen.

Things like this are why I still believe something bad WILL happen on Mayan Day.

Mayan Day? December 21, 2012? I'm expecting a lot of bad things to happen in the near future, but not particularly on that day.

I feel as though another Dark day is coming soon!!

P.S. The Mayan's did not account for "Leap Years" so the world ended about 8 months ago!!

Since the Mayans only cared about time passage, without having to correlate to a solar year, I would think that anyone that had interpolated the date for their calendar would have taken that into consideration, and that December 21, 2012 would be accurate...but then I don't know.

Does this mean torrents will be dead? How can they prove you downloaded a complete file using BitTorrent since the user is essentially downloading bits and pieces from x amount of users?
