No that's not enough to actually come after you.
They would need specific evidence that you were attempting to download copyrighted materials.
Which essentially it was impossible for you to do since the site has been shut down.

...there's a plugin for firefox that will get around that btw.
I can't promise your legal safety while using those plugins though.

I don't use Firefox, and I'm not interested in getting around anything. I'm just wondering how many pitfalls that I have to avoid to keep them off my back? If I go to a torrent website in my browser, it is obvious, but now I'm beginning to wonder about other programs...like TVU Player, Sopcast, etc. because I'm not really sure how they deliver their videos.

There were many legit files hosted on the closed sites. Just visiting one would unlikely put you on any list. I'd think only excessive download behavior is going to alert your ISP to monitor you. They won't want to waste the time and resources watching every one of their users. A Guy

In copyright you are truly only in violation if you yourself are sharing the content.
Which applies to all torrents, you must share to download.
It wouldn't apply as much with streaming content where the provider is the one at fault.
In general it's the providers they are looking to shut down.
You are just some guy on the internet, and they just want you afraid to basically do anything.
    Apparently mission accomplished.

Don't feel bad they've gotten to me too. It's a couple of social sites. Here and my gaming sites.
I don't really just surf the web anymore like I once did.

I guess the only thing that has really changed is it's not because viruses I'm afraid of picking up anymore. ...I mean viruses I could deal with. Strange laws that are not even understood fully by the people who pass them into effect are much scarier to me.

I certainly will not change anything I do online one iota. I don't do anything illegal, and if they want to suspect me, have at it. I don't upload, or even download enough to make anyone suspect though. But it irks me they would do this to anyone. It's supposed to be innocent unless proven guilty. But since there is no law involved, I guess they don't even have to follow that rule. A Guy

From what I understand, it doesn't really make a difference whether the person is sharer or sharee. Obviously, they want the providers most, but with the potential fines involved, they don't mind going after the little guy. They would be sadly surprised if they went after me though, because if they got every cents that I have, or will ever have, it wouldn't even pay the court costs.

That wouldn't make me feel any better about it, because I need every dollar I have to to just get by, and even if it didn't cost me a dime, I don't want anyone hassling me.

Well, here's the one thing I said that is completely accurate
No one actually even understands copyright law anymore. It takes enormous corporate level companies to even begin to deal with it now.
There are so many clauses for parody, and satire
    stuff concerning international law.

It is something I seriously doubt any one person on this planet has a comprehensive understanding of at this point in time.

The honest truth is it still stands as of now you will receive a notice telling you that you are accused of downloading or sharing 'What not to drink - the Socrates biography'
and they will generally give you a chance to just stop sharing it.
At which point most people do and that's the end of it.

That may be the way that it stands now, but as an army on the move, the law keeps going forward. Considering the extent to which this is at the outset, I suspect that it will be far worse soon.

No one really seems to doubt that.
I was speaking only in reference to your concern about that website hit, and not really the 'bigger picture'

Will people not not gather at say StarBucks and find some way to share music through bluetooth or something similar and be under the radar?
