Mainstream Support for Windows Vista Ends Today Quote: Over the weekend, Microsoft began a two-year countdown to the extinction of Windows XP (end of Extended Support), encouraging XP holdouts to move to Windows 7. Now it’s the turn of Vista holdouts to seriously contemplate upgrading to Windows 7, for today (April 10, 2012) is the last day of the hugely unpopular XP successor’s mainstream support phase.... I just can't get some of my friends to stop using XP. They're in big harm, but they still think it's faster ande simpler. And some even think that the only major changes in Windows 7 is aero. :[ | My System Specs | | OS Win7 Ultimate x64 SP1 / WCP x64 / Ubuntu 11 x64 |

Wow this is interesting. I still use XP on one computer. My other computers are all Windows 7. I tend just to change operating systems when I change the computers.
Does anyone besides me find this is freaky?

Hi there
We've still got till Apr 2014 (not 2013 but 2014) before support ends -- and in computing that's almost a Geological AGE away.
Individuals can change OS'es just like that -- corporates are the one's who need to "Ship Up or Out".
For some things on a VM I can still see myself using XP even long after "Xp Official support" ends. Otherwise I actually on other machines quite like W8 CP.
Don't create "Panic" when none is due. Come May 2014 when support for XP has finally ended -- it wont suddenly stop working -- this isn't the "Millenium Y2K scare" all over again.
Cheers

That's not really an issue if you go via an ISP and enter a domain name since the ISP will do the necessary conversion automatically. (That's what their DNS servers are for !!).
It's only a problem if you need to enter an actual IP address or you have your own DNS servers.

There is nothing wrong with sticking to Windows Xp or Vista. I still love XP although something is holding me to windows 7. Although there is at some point that you have to give up the old and welcome the new. This is just my two cents.

I always found Windows Vista to be under-rated. It was reasonably fast and had major improvements compared to XP in my opinion. I liked it and it served me well for a few years until I upgraded to Windows 7.
I think one of the reasons it was so unpopular is that the hardware requirements for Vista were so much higher than XP, so lots of XP computers either couldn't run it or ran it very slowly. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Toshiba Equium A210-1C4 Laptop OS Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit SP1 CPU AMD Athlon 64 X2 TK-57 Motherboard AMD SB600 Memory 2GB (1GBx2) DDR2 PC2-5300 SO-DIMM Graphics Card ATI Radeon X1200 Sound Card Realtek HD Audio Monitor(s) Displays 15.4" Toshiba TruBrite Laptop LCD Display Screen Resolution 1280 x 800 Mouse Argos Value Range Wireless USB Mouse Case Toshiba A200 Series Hard Drives 80GB Hitachi TravelStar 5K250/

How will Microsoft’s ending of support for WinXP effect Windows XP Mode in Vista and Windows 7? Specifically, when I make a clean install of Vista or Windows 7, after support for WinXP has ended, will I still be able to get service packs and updates for WinXP Mode? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Deviantsystems OS Win7 Ultimate x64 CPU Intel Core i7 950 (4x 3066 MHz with HT) Quad Core Motherboard Asus P6X58D-E Memory 6GB DDR3 1333Mhz Graphics Card Nvidia GTS 450 (1024MB GDDR5 | DX 11) Sound Card Intel HD Audio via Realtek ALC889 with 8-channel support Monitor(s) Displays Sony Bravia 32" Screen Resolution 1080i, x1768x992 Keyboard Microsoft Ergonomic Mouse Logitec Trackball PSU OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W 80+ Case Lian Li PC-7FN Cooling Processor cooling: Scythe Big Shuriken SCBSK-1000 Hard Drives 2x WD 1TB 7200 RPM Sata |

Don't know about xpmode - I expect so as they are ( optionally )part of the later os.
Vista will continue to get security updates till 2017, I believe.
Those of us who like it still have a bit of time to enjoy it. | My System Specs | | OS Vista x64 / 7 X64 CPU E8400 Motherboard ASRock 1333 GLAN R2.0 Memory 2x1 gb 800mhz Graphics Card 9500gt 1gb Case Coolermaster Cooling Winpower 500w Hard Drives Maxtor 160gb-2mb cache Mainstream Support for Windows Vista Ends Today problems?
