I know it's truely cynical, but , my only reaction is, "I wonder how much he's getting paid for that?"

Which one of his friends, or contributors is gonna get rich off this?

    Man, I am so sad.

exactly how is this a bad thing?

making services available on mobile phones is bad? helping tax payers access government information is bad? doing things to benefit people who web surf on mobile devices is bad?

Perhaps it's just my cynicism taking over but if someone knocks on the door and says, "Hi! I'm from the government and I'm here to help.", I automatically wonder what the catch is.

    Hi there
While the sentiment might be OK is this REALLY the job of a U.S President (or head of state of any other country) to get involved in this sort of stuff.

The Market is a much better arena to do this sort of stuff -- supply a decent product at a sensible price and consumers (whether business or private) will buy it.

Sorry to be negative -- I WANT more countries to push technology forwards but this is really not a remit for the US president.

    Cheers

Wow! Politics and Computers...... what a mix

Remember that ArpaNet preceded Internet and TCP/IP was DoD

Just food for thought when someone asks: "What business does the gov't have....."

edit: besides that it, it is his job to "ordered all major government agencies to make two key services available..."
