Microsoft to Retire Windows Live Brand Ahead of Windows 8 Launch Quote: Microsoft will retire the Windows Live brand as it gets ready to release what it describes as a more connected set of online consumer services with the launch of its Windows 8 operating system.
Its vision for a set of tightly woven services and desktop applications that Microsoft outlined when it unveiled Windows Live in 2005 hasn't been fully realized, the company said on Wednesday.
Right now, services like its Hotmail webmail service, SkyDrive storage service and Messenger IM service aren't as closely meshed as they should be with Windows Live desktop software like Photo Gallery and Movie Maker, nor with the Windows Live ID account service, Microsoft said in a blog post. I can see the benefit of a single "Microsoft Account". The Live ID was a step forward and sure beat all the individual User Name and Password accounts that MS used to have for various services and support.
I'm still trying to figure out why I'm getting spam on a Hotmail/Live-ID that I've never used though. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Built 2/11/2011 OS Windows 7 Pro-x64 CPU i7-2600 3.4GHz - 3.8GHz Turbo Motherboard Intel DH67BL-B3 Memory 8Gb - 2x4GB, Muskin 991770 PC3-1333 Graphics Card Integrated Intel HD 2000 Sound Card Integrated Intel 10.1 HD, RealTek ALC892 Monitor(s) Displays Asus LCD VH222H, Haier HL24XSL2a Screen Resolution 1920x1080, 1920x1080 Keyboard Logitech EX100 Wireless Mouse Logitech EX100 Wireless PSU Seasonic 650W 80+ Gold Modular Case Rosewill Defender Cooling Stock CPU, Four 120mm case fans, PCH fan added Hard Drives Crucial C300-128Gb,

It sounds so ... Apple PR chic. I think Microsoft needs to stop playing catch-up to Apple and start playing its own game. All that App sh-- is driving me nuts. Think of ways to make the laptop and PC better, not to compete in a tablet/phone market using laptops and PCs. shesh. Quote: It will also be possible to link the Microsoft Account with third-party online services, like LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter, in a way that a single list of contacts is maintained not only across Microsoft products but is also augmented by contacts from these other sites. (Quote from website)
I linked my live photo gallery with facebook and next thing I know, outlook 2010 displays all birthdays listed in facebook and hotmail. crazy. But I kinda like it. Name change = bad. Linked services = good. But I'm sure eventually I'll get used to it, and with the way things are going mentally for me right now, I'm sure I won't even remember there ever being a name change to begin with! | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell Inspiron M5040 OS Windows 8 Pro with Media Center x64 CPU AMD E-450 APU 1.65 GHz Memory 4GB Graphics Card Built-in Radeon HD 6320 Graphics Screen Resolution 1366 x 768 Mouse Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 3500 Cooling fan Hard Drives 500GB Internet Speed 2.86Mbps Download Speed, 2.85Mbps Upload Speed & 26ms Ping Antivirus Defender Browser IE10 |
