I installed 7 in May of this year after trying 8's consumer preview... which I deleted after four days of hell.
Fantail is right: 8 is a turd.

I used it for about two weeks,I liked some of the features like the faster boot up,copying time and shutdown times but I felt like they removed a lot of features and felt like a broken windows 7 with metro slapped on with a few tweaks to speed up boot and shut down times along with some changes to task manger and the way windows transfers files.I like I have said before will stay on windows 7 until Microsoft makes a OS that I like with similar features of windows 7 with some great performance tweaks.I'm open to new ideas and features but one should be offered previous features and given options to use only the new features one likes or to disable them.Although Microsoft so far has made a left turn going the wrong way,I hope they learn from this.Just like when vista released and had issues and wasn't liked much by the majority of the community.I felt like vista was the beta for windows 7 and windows 7 was the final product with all its superiority. Love windows 7 and most likely won't change unless there are major performance changes and i like the interface and can live with it and windows 7 loses most support for software.I'm hoping windows 9 will be just that but if Microsoft continues this path with making wrong choices that are disliked by most of the community then Microsoft is in for a strong loss.

Not even $40 can tempt me.

If 8 becomes a success I'll eat my own feet!

And yes I'll stick to my word!

I believe Windows 8 will be successful among touch-devices, but not among desktop users... the Metro touch-interface just ignores the mouse-keyboard we love so much.

I'm happy with 7 and that's where I'll stay regardless of the "good" deal. As they say, "If your car ain't broke, don't fix it."

No way on the customizations so far from what I've seen unless you add a 3rd party app on. That goes for the Metro UI workarounds as well.

The main problems besides the Metro seen here however have to do with setting up any dual boot of 8 with 7. When booting into 7 from 8 a lengthy list of drive errors resulted from the 7/8 RP dual boot not previously seen with the 7/8 CP dual boot. Both Windows versions suddenly began locking up as soon as the desktop finished loading. The Check Disk tool got 7 running normally again until an overdue clean install went on.

Following that I decided to change from Native ide to AHCI mode and whamo 7 saw everything go smoothly while the RP simply would no longer load! That's when I simply to split up the second OS drive for a Linux/Windows on VBox setup of both 7 and 8 where the RP failed to finish once again! No 8 VMs on Linux for sure!

The CP went onto the latest VM Player without a hitch while the RP simply would not. By the time I saw that as well as the 8 on VM problem with Linux and the drive errors on two OS drives it didn't much to figure out that 8 was going in reverse and becoming a "crap OS"! When going to get the old Vista case running again to loan out to a friend who wouldn't be in a financial situation to build a new case to replace his old XP system that went doa I ended up having some extras around to now see a second 7 Pro mini tower in progress!

Gee two 7 systems and no "8 mares" to think about! Can't go wrong there!
