i tried the free trial download of win8, ill stay with 7. win8 is for those who like touching their screens. and hunting for the power down button. sellers here are offering win8 for 14.99 as an upgrade. theyre really trying to push it, plus i heard it will be cheaper to buy full version of win8 for clean installation.
the biggest flaw i seen in win8 is no start menu.

If you buy a computer now, you can get a Windows 8 upgrade for $14.99.
From October 26 to January '13 you can get an upgrade version of Windows 8 for $39.99.
The Windows 8 other versions are going to be roughly the same price as Windows 7 versions.

That's entirely your choice, Windows 7 is a great OS, just wanted to clarify the Windows 8 pricing.
I think there are going to be a lot of people staying with Windows 7.

yes cause theres no start menu in win8, and when you want to shut down you have to hunt for power icon in upper right corner. then choose from the list.

I think it was £39.99 at tesco for win7 - if I remember correctly, tesco and others were able to sell it for less than the initial quoted price.

Factor in 3 yrs inflation and it isn't much different for the boxed dvd.

What is different is the very cheap offer if you d/l the installer - instead of getting the physical product in a box.
I pre-ordered my Windows 7 at Tesco and paid £44.97 for it. I was running Vista at the time and dual booted for awhile when 7 first came out.:)

The open source program Classic Shell will provide a Start menu as well as the shutdown button with restart but no logoff or sleep, hibernate options. You can't right click on the button to see it set to restart or logoff either or customize and hide notifications as you would normally do with the normal Start but at least that's an option available.

Just as suspected back in 2009 at first running 7 I knew the next to come would tend to be a hard sell. But more and more people are making a lasting decision about either going for broke with 8 or playing it smart by staying with 7!

With the way MS stripped things out of the new version upon us do you have to wonder why the advanced upgrade offers are cheap as ever? People won't pay the same while knowing they are getting less!

    “Let the buyer beware.”

I think that MS is counting on people not finding out until it's too late.

Now hold your arms out constantly to touch the screen hour after hour rather then a point and click. If you spend a great deal of time in front of a desktop keeping that arm extended is going to get tiresome real fast!

Ironically I have to agree with the $40 price! That's about what it is worth to most as far as an OS is concerned due to the drastic changes without options! "Cheapo OS" will likely become the label for it!

The hammer falls after you are involved with 8 and MS says: "We got you good this time around!" as they laugh to the bank!

Meanwhile once you realize half the things are gone or stripped down as far as what is supported like people asking about WMP and XP being told 9 lacked while updating to WMP 10 works. Then you have to tell them that WMP 13 or whatever is now seen in 8 is no longer able to play dvd movies!

WMP 10-12 all set to go! WMP to come??? GGrrrrr... "what's this now?!" will be the expression on people's faces once they realize "hey things are missing!"
