Uh...
So many things, but we'll just deal with the first thing.
Are you actually suggesting people overclock their laptops?
...because it is dangerous and stupid.
I've seen dozens of very expensive laptops completely destroyed because the user decided to overclock them.

It would remiss of me not to tell someone that before they attempt to do so themselves. There is also the little fact that most of them couldn't be bothered to google even a few basics before running here to ask me how to overclock. If you are as much the poweruser / administrator you make yourself out to be, you should already know these people are generally minors using their parents computers. I'm not going to tell some kid how to destroy mom's desktop. In an attempt to play a game that won't run on their system anyway.

I don't support vista, next to ME I think it's the biggest fail windows of all time.
ME winning only slightly there as it just never did work right at all while they did eventually manage to get vista running right.

I do think Vista has some sort of nostalgia to everyone.
...and not unlike old robocop movies people seem to remember them as being a hell of a lot better than they actually were.

Well awesome reply Magus, no joke haha. For one though, obviously everyone has their own take and personal opinions on... everything in the world. However, forcing yours or discouraging others is what I'm getting at about the laptop overclocking. Yes of course it's not smart to overclock a laptop in most cases, but who are you to decide whether the person on the other end is smart or not? They're asking a question, I believe everyone deserves the right to do what they want. For all you know they're a professional overclocker trying to break records on a laptop chipset by using a full air conditioned enclosure. A warning beforehand is always smart, I mean without that it's like if a guy came on saying "hey I just got this stun gun, I've got some experience on them but I'm trying to see how to up the voltage" and you saying "Well first thing's first, don't even pick it up till you know how to use it"... fair enough. The type of person that I am would still answer the question though, if I knew the answer. There's no need to assume "this guy's obviously retarded, I'm not even gonna allow him to attempt it". I just prefer not to be belittled or have my intelligence/common sense insulted because some guy on a computer is worried I might be too stupid to know what I'm doing, and I treat others the same way. You ask questions on forums to learn and get answers, not to be denied and told off. That's what parents are for.

You're completely right, many many people may ask how to 'overclock a laptop' or some other seemingly ridiculous topic because they have no idea what they're asking, but others actually do know what they're talking about and just want some input on their setup just like any conventional overclocker would. This laptop thing is all just one example because the personality I'm referring to does this "don't even bother idiot" response to any strange-sounding question. It's like saying "I'm going to the shooting range" and you would respond with "woah WOAH, you're not going anywhere. Guns KILL people idiot". Everyone learns from experience- and most people have enough common sense to understand the risks, they don't need to take your all-knowing word for it. Darwinism kicks in when they get too stupid.

I really like that you stood up on the other side of that argument though, I understand the outlook from your side a lot better than I used to now. I just assumed everyone that said "no dummy" was a jerk trying to annoy the question-asker.

Usually when I say no to someone in a situation like that, it's largely to keep them from causing themselves problems yes.
When it comes to overclocking I will generally just advise they be as careful as possible when trying.
I myself don't give overclocking advice based largely on the fact that even when it's done properly it will reduce the lifespan of components. On all but the heftiest of systems, which is not usually what you see the people asking that question have. usually they have a old dated computer they are trying to get to do stuff it was never made for in the first place.

I don't tell people no, I simply let someone else help them.

OK thanks to this thread I've made Win8 tolerable with Classic Shell, replacing the metrosexual Start menu with the Win7-style Aero Start menu button on the task bar, at defaults.

The only thing that's missing is the Computer menu choice in the right column which I use a lot. Why would they leave this off when it's one of the most used choices on the Start Menu? I cannot find how to add it in any of the customization menus? Help!

Thanks Si. That pins it to the left side of the Start menu and gives me right-clickability to Manage and Properties as needed.

But what's missing is the menu foldout given if on the right side. Is there a way to move it over there and add a menu? Hate to be picky but I use it many times per day. I wonder why they'd leave something so important out. Maybe they needed you to write some code.

That's odd - I thought the reg file would do that - perhaps I made a mistake in it.

Hey it popped over there perfectly after a restart. I've got it looking almost exactly like Win7 now.

Thanks, Si !

Waiting to see if it populates Most Used Programs. Any other suggestions?
