Is 'Metro' now a banned word at Microsoft?

It looks like WFW3.11 I don't call that innovation. A phone OS is great on a phone, not so much on a desktop with a mouse, and no touch screen. Maybe I'm just old school. But I still think of our users, and see then standing around with tablets, and it doesn't make any sense to me.

I don't understand the fascination with tablets myself.
All I ever see anyone doing on them is watching videos or using facebook pretty much...
I can do that on my phone anyhow.
I see the new laptop / tablet hybrids now though and they at least make a tiny bit of sense to me. Use the laptop properly then pop off the screen and walk around with it if you need to.

Metro is the Modern UI now. The point is that windows 8 is made for hybrid laptops, a melt of windows 7 and face-lifted android for the proper glossy/solid effect. That could very interesting on such hybrid computers and at ease to use in my opinion.

True that on desktop PC / Laptops PC, it will be quit a pain navigating through solid colors pages to aero theme pages.

Well, MS made Surface for anyway!

Of course the usability of an o/s is important.

The appearance is important , too - if you are trying to sell something, the buyer has to like the way it looks.

There is something much more important than those going on here.

That is the direction MS is trying to lead people in.

Unless they meet stiff resitance, it won't be too long before the only devices available will be for for jabbing at little squares, and consuming content from online.

Those who want to control their own files, and manage and create content will find it increasingly difficult to do so.

The public are being led toward an endless spiral of mindless consumption.

The public are being led toward an endless spiral of mindless consumption.

The online gaming industry has proven that micro-transactions are far more profitable than up-front selling. This was also proven with the first smartphones. The majority of individuals are moving to mobile devices for their internet communications and gaming, so that is where the market is.

Similar complaints of control were heard from the begining of Windows (3.1) and with each version. Jeez, my father STILL wants the menu control he had in DOS!

The world moves on, and most people are going to move with it. IF you are a PC person, like me, do not dispair. Despite the cries of "the PC is dead!" from bloggers, companies are not going to destroy their productivity by moving fully to mobil devices. Some work will ALWAYS demand more power, more control, and bigger screens, and PC's will provide it.

MS will self correct after it sees that the PC market is NOT dead, and they need a PC only OS. It will happen with the next version. Bookmark it.

I believe it was a panicked over-reaction to Ipad2 which release came on the opening day of MVP Global Summit two years ago and cast it into turmoil. I couldn't understand why the company was so defensive when they had just produced the greatest OS ever.

Since then Win7 has been left behind without even taking the time to appreciate the monumental achievement at a time when the great mass of users are only now coming online to use and love it.

Those of us carrying a big part of the Win7 support workload cannot help but feel abandoned by a company which seems to have forgotten the OS which saved it, especially when you consider they are trading it for a touchscreen interface which on a desktop becomes a wall between the user and his/her work.

Yes, I am afraid there are a number of MS existing user base who fell abandoned. As if their needs have been met with indifference.

Not the best way to manage any kind of transition.

I do not feel abandoned by MS rules at all, just the new techs are ever growing up the future that fast, we cannot even upgrade every two or three years without feeling having messed up our lives!

So, better sometimes put blinders and wait for the next train. Did some done it with Vista? Well, are you using that old windows 8 now?

Only rumours so far - it might turn out to be not what we hope.

It's old already ? - wow - hasn't even been released yet. Things sure do move fast.

I am looking forward to the next - surely it has to better than win8.

I wouldn't be so much against it if it was possible to keep the Metro New UI confined in touchscreen... screens.

It would be the ultimate badass keyboard for PCs (if the touchscreens were a bit more soft anyway).
