I really dislike this mass movement to the cloud. I'd rather have all my needed documents stored with me at home instead of having everything on someone elses servers. Especially if my internet connection happens to take a royal crap. If it continues this way I'll be with LittleJay and move onto Linux. But I plan to stick with Windows 7 as long as I can.

The big advantage that Windows always had over Apple
was that it wasn't locked-down. And I can't say that I
like the way Windows appears to be headed now.

I believe in the 'pay once, own forever' principle when
it comes to software, so certainly won't be entering the
'user-pays-thru-the-nose' world of the cloud.

Nor will I be using it to store my files. That's what my
4 terabytes of HDD are for.

Not impressed with Win 8 because of this, and if Win
9 is as bad (or worse) then when Win 7 reaches EOL
it'll be time for Linux and open-source for me.

Looks like Windows 7 will be on here for a while yet.

One day, I stored a school paper in Skydrive, then, the school's internet didn't work the next day. Yea, I don't like the cloud...

Cloud computing has been pushed by the ones with the power for quite sometime. They will continue to push Cloud computing what ever Windows operating system comes out or what it's called. I don't want it or need it. It's hard for me to understand how business and industry can depend on a Internet connection and a cloud to do business.

I don't understand it. Windows 8 isn't even dry behind the ears yet, but yet M$ is working on Windows 9.

well i hope that they release windows 8 as primary os for tablet devices and then split with windows 9 going back to primary dekstop os.. and developing tablet os from windows 8 line.. thus separating tablet and desktop (at least in UI level).
that may be just wishful thinking.. but i hope ms dont forget about keyboard and mause pc.. its still not dead. for example apple has separate os for tablet and desktop.

Cloud is good for some aspects, but having a entire operating system based around it has no appeal to me, so I'll stick with Windows 7 as long as possible. Also, if more and more people start to use Cloud, wouldn't that produce of a security risk, as viruses are more likely to targeted at Cloud-based systems?

I wouldn't be surprised if something came out pretty fast - a lot less than 3 yrs.

They will have to do something to fix win 8.

A security leak in cloud computing. (Big Time). Who can better protect your information than you on your own computer. Once it's in a cloud the security is in someone else's hands. You can be assured that the contract will be worded in such a fashion so they can't be held responsible for your informations security. Cloud computing is not new but the name is new. Your email, and all the social nets like YouTube, Face Book hold information on the users is in a cloud. On somebody eases computer accessed using the Internet. Think back, how many times they get hacked. This is nothing but skulduggery to me.
