As I don't have time to just sit and study a company's logo it makes no difference to me what it looks like. I don't much care what they do with it!!!

I installed windows 8 release preview. It's terrible. They destroyed the desktop interface. Not sure why. You still have to use it. Metro on the desktop is butt ugly. The touch screen interface isn't bad. It's essentially a start menu for tablets. Why they destroyed the desktop interface and why you can't have a choice between desktop and metro is beyond me. It sucks really bad.

Personally, I don't see what all the fuss is about. So they changed their logo, big deal! It is still a very recognizable Microsoft image.

When IE9 came out, it had a new logo, and nobody even bothered to comment on it as much as this new logo. By stripping down some gradients and the flashy flashy unnecessary crap from IE9's logo it became, IMHO, by far the best they have ever made. Aero was flashy and awesome in Vista, then got stripped to a boring Windows 7 look, but now this new logo, and the concept that stands behind it in all Microsoft products, aims to be simple and pretty; in other worlds: subtle!

Not having a blindingly flashy fancy logo anymore doesn't mean a thing. Once again, people are just over-blowing things out of proportions.

@Rich,

I think you have misread that.

MS haters probably do exist. Apple haters exist too - we have had people on this forum disparaging Apple in general.

However, those using windows are clearly not MS haters. Many of them do not like what MS have done with win8 - or the direction they appear to be heading.

They are perfectly entitled to say so.

It is interesting that on Windows 8 Forum , there have been a few who like what is going with win8 ( that is fine - they are entitled to ) - and also seem desperate to get others to validate their choice.

Rude, sarcastic comments, showing off - all kinds of odd behaviour.

It just shows there are some odd people around - it is sad they suffer from those insecurities.

There has been a suggestion the new windows look is attracting an element similar to the obsessive Apple fanboys.

It is interesting to watch.

Perhaps because we are all entitled to an opinion as you are. If we all agreed with you, what kind of world would that be?

I find it odd too that so many use w7 and continue to gripe, complain, moan, and knock it. I always advise them to buy a Mac. :D

I find it odd too that so many use Windows 7 and continue to gripe, complain, moan, and knock it. I always advise them to buy a Mac.

Actually, I rather like Windows 7 and have since the first beta download. It was immediatly better than XP or Vista combined. Further, It allows me to set up my system MY way and use it the way I am maximally productive. It does not insert useless screens and extra clicks that give me no value and add only pointless and time wasting frustration.

My strongest bitch, is that not too many years from now, Microsoft will Kill Windows 7 as a purchasable OS so I must prepare my software to run on something I find majorly inadequate. It will be something I wouldn't want to use or to deliver to my customers. It is especially offensive since it would have been trivially easy to allow configurable choices as has been the case since Windows 3.0 over 20 years ago and DOS before that.

That way, if you want to work on a small touch screen, you could do so. If you want to work on a large or multiple monitor desktop, the way you have for most of 20 years, you could. But no. Microsoft has spoken. You will do things ONLY their way or you won't be doing it for vary long in any replicable and supported way.

Their so called new logo is simply a statement that that is how Microsoft now sees itself and that the customer base will shut up, take it, like it, and be willing to pay for the abuse. Personally, I can't understand why anyone would prefer that let alone cooperate with it. Especially if you have any kind of real computer work to accomplish efficiently and without unnecessary hassle or frustration.

An Apple is great if it does exactly what you want to do the way you want to do it. If you have to do things that no one else has ever done before or in a way no one has done before, Apple is the worst platform to use. It is totally antagonistic to the really new and different. Windows 8 is also not new. It is simply pointlessly and aggressively different.

The real issue is that the tool to be used must be determined by the problem to be solved. If you pick the tool without respect to the problem to be solved, you have determined and limited the problems you can solve. I solve problems that have not been solved before so I don't pick Apple nor will I pick Windows 8. They both put up totally obnoxious and unnecessary blocks to the kinds of work I have chosen to do. As I see it, MY choice rules what I do, how I do it, and what I use to do it. Microsoft, you, and anyone else don't have a vote.

You go your way and I will go mine. I presume your way is right for you but I KNOW my way is best for me.

Logo isn't bad. A little dull (Yes matches the dullness of windows 8). The color is nice though. What was so great about their old one? It was just a font with a tiny bit of zing in the middle. The old one was just as plain in it's own way.

One thing about color logos though, you need to come up with a single color version (or several). Wonder what those will look like...

It went flat without the three dimensionality. The design is headed there with the new windows style which seems blandly flat.

The eye-appeal of the BofA logo is entirely because of the 3D:
images

Imagine what it would look like flat.

Why are they on Windows 7 if they hate MS so much?

Because it's pretty much a perfect OS?

So of course it must be replaced in 2 months, with an OS that should be a SP and needs a third party Start button for a tolerable desktop experience.

There's a simple answer which MS knows very well and it's called greed

Actually, I don't think they are greedy enough. Had they given the customer base the choices they want, there would have been hardly any bad press and they would have sold far more Windows 8 systems. As it is, there is a huge amount of bad press resulting from a serious error in product design. So by lacking greed, they have a monomania of a future they believe is out there. They are cramming their mania down the throats of the customers. Total sales will be much less than it would otherwise have been. They have also likely damaged the possibility of the future they have imagined.
