Microsoft preps its Office 2013 upgrade program

Quote:
Just as it does with Windows, Microsoft typically offers its Office customers an upgrade guarantee program, allowing them to buy the current version of a product with a free or discounted upgrade to the next one being part of the package.

One of my contacts said the Office 2013 upgrade guarantee will begin in about a month's time -- specifically on October 19. If this is correct, users purchasing Office 2010 between that date and the end of the covered period (which my same contact said is April 30, 2013) will get some kind of guaranteed upgrade to Office 2013 once it is generally available.

Microsoft officials have not shared public guidance as to Office 2013's planned release-to-manufacturing (RTM) or general availability dates. My sources have heard that the RTM target is November 2012, with general availability slated for February 2013. (Those with TechNet/MSDN and volume-licensing agreements would likely get the final bits shortly after they RTM.)

I have Office 2013 Preview edition, what is difference between the actual edition of Office 2013 and the preview?

Hello Harry,

Office 2013 Preview edition is just a preview version that will expire 60 days after the Office 2013 RTM is released. The actual edition is the RTM final version that you would buy from a retailer.

Okay thanks Shawn, got Open Office installed (one of the reasons I need to keep Java) and might have a Office 2007 .ISO file on a different computer somewhere.

I have Office 2012 Pro, I will stick with that version for awhile even after release as I see no need to run out and spend that kind of money to buy the latest and greatest version. When my current version lets me check my email, and not have to open my browser every time. It allows me to make my word documents that I need for college and make my power points and anything else. it works just fine so I highly won't be upgrading when its release. Now if i was still running Office 2003 I would highly upgrade then.

Thats just what i think, many of you may have different thoughts.

Thanks
