Google Puts Internet Explorer 8 on Notice, Ends Support in Nov.

Changing browsers would be a lot cheaper than upgrading the OS. If Google thinks they can force me to upgrade my XP machine before I'm ready to, they can think again. I'll switch browsers first: and it won't be to Chrome.

Seriously? That hasn't been my experience. Keeping up with technology is expensive and can often eat too heavily into a business' profit margin, often wiping it out.

I guess it depends, on how dependent the company is on computers, a IT firm will obviously will need the latest operating system and hardware :P

For best results you should be using a SPDY enabled browser such as Chrome or Firefox when using google sites such as gmail.

However, my single - parent son, with 2 teens aged 16 and 14, will struggle to upgrade his 3 - computer network from XP to 7. Already he has 2 jobs just to keep them clothed, fed and educated, with a financial eye on further education.

The reason why Chrome and Firefox are better than IE9, especially in the JavaScript department?

You should not force people to upgrade their browser GOOGLE!!

I am using IE9 and I do not remember any bugs!

it may be possible as a low income family that he can qualify for an empowerment grant,
schools sometimes have schemes that can access funding also. my sons laptop was part funded by his school ,we paid half of it, it cost us £ 170
i'll have a look into it , his local authority would have good info on this, maybe he contacts his local council for more info.

your son may not be keen on asking for help as he seems to be a grafter by the sound of it ,but when its for the kids benefit sometimes you have to put it down for a short while.

May be they can on your side of the pond but, over here, schools are usually strapped.

I'm pretty sure my school had cracked XP OS on all its machines (a hundred or so). As it had cracked C++ compilers, Autocad, Derive and most other stuff.

This decision may lend to more piracy instead, if Google does do stuff that does not work on IE 8, AT ALL.

Your school should be reported LOL. Google isn't trying to abet piracy. They wanted people to take advantage of the modern web standards like HTML5 and it's too costly to support older browsers since developers have to tinker their code to work with those browsers while complying to modern web standards.
