Hi there
you need to be a bit more suspicious of these types of stats --- While I'm sure the usage of Chrome far exceeds that of IE now isn't this because a HUGE amount of browsing / surfing is done these days with devices like tablets and smartphones.
Once you add Android into the equation this isn't surprising at all (in fact it probably should really be obvious -- please don't take offense here - none intended -- but statistics have an incredible way of being either grossly mis-used -- as per virtually the whole advertising industry -- or wrongly interpreted).
The way these stats are gathered as well are somewhat suspect -- If say a Google lookup is performed does Google actually KNOW whether the query comes from a desktop / tablet / mobile phone --it usually will receive just an IP address -- and secondly it's quite easy for browser ID's to be changed so the browser name won't be reported correctly anyway.
Cheers

User-Agent Part of the information exchanged in http requests is an item called "User-Agent". Quote: In particular, the Hypertext Transfer Protocol identifies the client software originating the request, using a "User-Agent" header, ... Wikipedia User agent - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I believe this is how MS was preventing people from accessing the MS update site, if they were using anything other than IE.
There is a plugin for Firefox that replaces the FF "User-Agent" info with IE "User-Agent" info.
On my networking course (as an exercise) we set MS Forefront TMG to block the Mozilla "User-Agent" from our virtual networks. Wikipedia User agent - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I suspect that most people aren't changing their browser's "User-Agent" though.

I've used all the major browsers over the last few years.
None of them come CLOSE to IE9/10.
IE still suffers unfairly from the IE6/7 lack of security.
There is NOTHING wrong with it. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Acer Aspire Ethos 8951G OS Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit CPU i7-2670QM @ 2.2/3.2 Ghz Motherboard Acer Memory 8 Gb DDR3 Graphics Card Ge-Force GT555M 2 Gb Sound Card Onboard w/Dolby 5/1 Hard Drives 2x750GB onboard. 640GB pocket drive, 1x2TB Seagate external, 1x500GB Seagate external. |

I was a IE user right up to IE9 which I just couldn't find any love for, so I jumped ship to FF and aint looked back. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number doofenshmirtz evil incorporated OS Windows 8 Pro CPU Intel Core i7-3970X Extreme Edition Motherboard ASRock X79 EXTREME11 Memory 32GB (8x4GB) Corsair DDR3 Dominator Platinum Graphics Card 2x 3GB EVGA GTX 660 Ti Superclocked+ Sound Card Creative Monitor(s) Displays 3 x27" Dell & 2 x 23" Dell Screen Resolution 3 @ 2560x1440 & 2 @ 1920x1080 Keyboard Microsoft Ergononic 7000 Mouse Logitech Performance MX PSU 1500W ThermalTake Toughpower Case Thermaltake Level 10 GT Cooling Antec Kúhler H2O 620 CPU Watercooler Hard Drives 240GB Intel 520 Series, 2.5" SSD, SATA III

Firefox I can't customise IE9 and it doesn't have NoScript, so it's Firefox "all the way" for me.
I also hate the way that "modern" browsers hide all of the controls.
