    Windows 8: Ready, set, preorder

With two weeks to go before Windows 8 and Windows RT launch, Microsoft and partners are slowly opening the availability pipe. Check out the pricing.

For those who still haven't gotten their hands on the Windows 8 release-to-manufacturing bits via MSDN, TechNet, BizSpark, volume licensing or some other channel, Microsoft is making available via preorder the Windows 8 upgrade media as of October 12.

Now that I'm completely comfortable with W7 do you think I will move into W8? Not in ten years or so!

I agree, and I use a hp slate 500. I do plan on purchasing the microsoft surface pro and give it a try and if it fails to impress me I'm downgrading to windows 7.

I saw these promotional prices in an e-mail from NewEgg this morning, but I somehow resisted the urge to buy.

    Thanks for the info Brink.
Interesting pricing, the pricing in Feb '13 will probably depend on the sales from now until then.

I'll be getting at least two on October 26th.
Starting October 26th, you'll also have the option to download Windows 8 Pro for $39.99.

    Thanks Brink, Dave.

I remember there being some fodder about it being 39.99 but the link Dave supplied is showing it at $69.99. Am I missing something?

I'll get a copy at 39.99 and just hold on to it till I'm ready to move to 8. Haven't even played with the Beta/Customer preview releases. Anyway if its starting at 69 I may wait until I'm actually ready to make the move.
