I'm at that point as well. You what they say, "You can't teach an old dog new tricks"! [/QUOTE]
I am an old dog, but I still learn a few new tricks. However I don't see the point in making a real computer look like a tablet.
Not planning on using W8 unless MS offers a way to have the start menu and desktop like Windows 7. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP p6370t OS Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit CPU i3-530 Motherboard MSI - IONA Memory 8 Gb Graphics Card onboard Sound Card onboard Monitor(s) Displays Dell ST2400 Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Hard Drives Intell 520 SSD 120Gb, WD6400AAKS, 640Gb & WD USB MyBook 1Tb Internet Speed 1.5 Mmbps, Hughes Satellite |

I agree too that Win8 is a downgrade compared to Windows 7. The new UI is too tablet-specific and gets in the way in so many forms that makes impractical for real usage. Sure, it CAN be done and anyone with practice can learn and use it like any other version, but you'll be doing in a non optimal way and wasting time searching for options instead of just doing your work. | My System Specs | | Computer type Laptop System Manufacturer/Model Number Toshiba Sattelite A665-S6092 OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU Intel Core i7-740QM Memory 8 GB DDR3 Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce 330GT Screen Resolution 1366x768 Cooling Coolermaster Notepal U3 notebook cooling pad Hard Drives Samsung 840 SSD 500GB

But I have not noticed any complaints about classic shell, not that I have been looking.

Windows 7 doesn't need Classic Shell because it was done right to begin with, unlike W8.
So the question begs to be asked.......Why buy W8 and use Classic Shell to make it look more like Windows 7???
I'm with you bumpkin, W8 is a downgrade from Windows 7.

"You can't teach an old dog new tricks"
Only if the old dog doesn't want to learn something new.
It takes less than 5 minutes to learn the new UI, most important is getting to the Desktop.
I find the new UI useful for a couple of things, kinda like a dock program, like something from Stardock.
The actual improvements and benefits (not counting the new UI) are very good.
Been using Windows 8 for over a year, primary for about 7 months.

That's exactly the problem, it was DESIGNED for smart phones and tablets, not desktop PCs.
They could probably design a mouse to use for your smart phone too, but it might be kinda awkward because smart phones weren't designed to be used with a mouse!
Neither were desktops designed for a tablet OS. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Build OS Windows 7 Home Premium x64 CPU Intel I7 3770K Motherboard P8Z77-V Pro Memory Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3 1600 Graphics Card ASUS Radeon HD 7770 Sound Card Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium HD Monitor(s) Displays HP 21.5" LED PSU Corsair AX760 Platinum Case Corsair Obsidian 550D Cooling CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO Hard Drives 2 X WD Black, 1 TB each Other Info USB 3.0 |
