Windows 7 student deal goes live

    Posted: 02 Oct 2009
OS will be available for £30 until January

Cash-strapped students are now able to pre-order Windows 7 for less than half the £80 price tag, ahead of the operating system’s official release later this month.
Microsoft’s student offer launched yesterday, and UK students with a valid ‘.ac.uk’ email address from their institution can now pre-order Windows 7 Home Premium or Windows 7 Professional for £30, while US students with a ‘.edu’ address pay $30.
The firm hopes that students can’t afford to buy a new machine but want to upgrade their system for the new academic year will take advantage of the operating system’s discounted price.
Windows 7 is released on 22 October, while the student deal closes on 3 January 2010.

Really good deal. Windows 7 is well worth £30 without a doubt.

Guess again. You just have to wait a bit longer.

"On Oct. 22, the promotion will open up to students in Canada, Australia, France, Germany, Korea, Mexico and the U.K. However, U.K. students can pre-order a copy on Sept. 30."

I might have to get in on this, especially since it appears they offer Professional for the same price if you look at the little print.

If you're a (college) student, you can submit your info and they'll add your institution to their qualifying list.

Those with the .edu email addresses simply go through automatically since you pretty much have to be at a college to get one.

And if you don't have a college email because you're not in college, you don't get it. :)

Pfft. Just became eligible today. Whats funny is that we get the short end of the deal. $108.00 instead of the promised $29.99. Hardly a deal in comparison.
