Eight Pro downgrade rises Feb 1 to $99, now $30 via NewEgg

Saw this on Brad's Deals today:

Windows 8 Pro $30 Shipped After Rebate

Get the Microsoft Windows 8 Pro Upgrade for $69.99 at Newegg.com. Shipping is free. Then, submit this rebate and you will get a $40 Newegg prepaid card to use on another purchase, dropping your net price to $29.99. That's the lowest price we could find by $37. Note that Microsoft announced it is raising the price on this upgrade to $99.99 effective 2/1. It's compatible with PCs already running Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista or Windows 7. There is no sales tax (except in CA, NJ, TN).

Wow, it's only been out a few months. I wonder if we wait a few more months, will it be free?

I wouldn't buy Windows 8 even if it were priced at a mindblowing $0.01.

It might be worth buying at that price.

Assuming that MS come to their senses, you might be able to use it to upgrade to W9 or W10.

The problem for the average PC/laptop buyer now is that they generally don't have an option (here at least).
What I understand from other posts on the forum is that retrofitting Windows 7 and sometimes even linux may not be that straightforward for the novice on some new PCs??? I know that there are posts/tutorials here on the topic but not everybody visits here.

Hi there
PLEASE BE ACCURATE -- the rebate is only valid ON ANOTHER PURCHASE --this type of advertising is akin to sneakerware or suckerware.

It *Could* be OK if you need or want to make a second purchase - but if you just want to buy Windows then the basic 70 USD applies (69.99).

It's like those governments saying -- we will subsidise your power bills -- so we will give you 50% off the price of decent insulation -- but if you can't afford the energy bills in the first place this type of offer does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to reduce the bills you are getting NOW - so you certainly couldn't afford to accept the offer in the first place.

However the spin doctors will gleefully announce (especially just before elections) "We are reducing your Energy costs" -- as always to those who can afford the often quite large layouts to pay for even 50% of the work.

If you need to buy a second product - go ahead -- but I rather dislike this type of advertising -- rather like 2 for one in a supermarket (BOGOFF - Buy One Get One For Free) - often leading to waste -- why not just cut the price of the original article by say 25% for a while.

P'SSST (don't tell everybody but I hear there's a good deal on FERRARI's at the moment -- if you purchase 2 you might get a Landrover thrown in for free. !!).

Cheers
