Thousands of Hotmail Passwords Leaked Online.

    Todays Update
Hotmail phishing attack confirmed, 20,000 accounts in total

Microsoft confirmed yesterday evening that the popular web email service, Hotmail, had been targeted by malicious fraudsters in what is commonly referred to as a phishing scam, tricking users into revealing their credentials at fake websites.

Neowin can today reveal that more lists are circulating with genuine account information and that over 20,000 accounts have now been compromised. Non-Hotmail passport accounts have been affected too. A new list contains email accounts for Gmail, Comcast, Earthlink and other third party popular web mail services. It's not clear if this is login information for the service itself or the Microsoft Passport passwords.
    More from Neowin......
(Thanks to neowin for the heads-up on the news)

Over the weekend Microsoft learned that several thousand Windows Live Hotmail customers’ credentials were exposed on a third-party site due to a likely phishing scheme. Upon learning of the issue, we immediately requested that the credentials be removed and launched an investigation to determine the impact to customers. As part of that investigation, we determined that this was not a breach of internal Microsoft data and initiated our standard process of working to help customers regain control of their accounts.
       Tip

Rafael Rivera from WithinWindows posted this link that checks a given Windows Live mail some 19000+ phished list.

MS recently took a few weeks to correct a problem I was having with my mail account.

    I'm done with that "service".

Your welcome georgio, and welcome to sevenforums

I assume that the logins are some phished ones, and not leaked directly from some login database.

Its always better to change the password rather than taking any risks.

    Hi all
One of many reasons why I don't like Hot / Live or any Webmail based email service -- I always RDP to my own server and use the email via the ISP -- not 100% foolproof but much more secure than webmail based services -- also no annoying ads and generally works faster too - especially on receive.

    Cheers
