“Microsoft's real aim is to kill the aftermarket in used computers that have Win 8 installed by not allowing you to install something other than Windows”
Microsoft could just have refused to sign UEFI bootloaders. They didn't. That doesn't really fit in with what you're claiming.

If I buy a computer with Windows 8 and Secure Boot, will I still be able to install Linux? - Super User

First of all, Secure Boot is not something that Microsoft came up with. They're the first to widely implement it, but they didn't invent it. It's part of the UEFI specification, which is basically a newer replacement for the old BIOS that you're probably used to. UEFI is basically the software that talks between the OS and the hardware. UEFI standards are created by a group called the "UEFI Forum", which is made up of computing industry representatives including Microsoft, Apple, Intel, AMD, and a handful of computer manufacturers.

It seem to be a Samsung problem, not a kernel problem (it can be avoided by "Blacklisting" a particular Samsung driver).

My friend just built a desktop for his work.
It has an ASUS motherboard with UEFI.
He installed Ubuntu Server and it works fine.

Win 7 booting into UEFI - How to change
Hi all, Just did an upgrade that included new MSI PC Mate MB and i7 4790K CPU - all went fine. Did a fresh install of Windows 7 Pro 64. The Bios of the MSI gave me fits from the get go as far as booting. I initially installed OS in UEFI/Legacy mode. But did some switching to UEFI in an effort...

Computer is now booting to the UEFI instead of directly to Windows
After installing a round of usual updates (Microsoft Security updates, Virus definition updates), my computer asked to restart so it could finish applying the updates. Nothing suspicious there, as this is pretty normal. However, when it restarted, my computer booted to the motherboard's UEFI...

Your link shows Windows 7 on the unit. Could you explain the procedure you tried and what the results were, what messages did you get? I know at least one company sells a combination drive like that. They should have a procedure for loading it, if one is needed, but I have not had such a...

UEFI Booting of GPT partition doesn't work after 2nd HDD was added
Good day, I have an Asus Z68 mainboard with UEFI-BIOS. Windows 7 Professional 64bit is installed in UEFI mode on a GPT partitioned drive (SSD). It worked flawlessly. Now I added my second, old harddrive, that is still MBR formatted. Windows won't start anymore, instead I am seeing "Windows...

Sony vs. Samsung vs. HP in laptops? Please help
I'm about to buy a laptop but I don't know what to choose. I've been searching on the Internet about the comparison between Sony vs. HP. Most of the people recommend HP. My friend owns a HP laptop and in my opinion, I think it runs pretty lound. The fan is under the laptop, not on the side like...
