LibreOffice 4.0 Released

We know that. But what PART of Base?
The part that uses SQL relations in a database.

OOo's java requirements were the same way and now that I've made the switch to Libre I finally went looking for an answer because I also didn't like that "one liner" about java.

I had a feeling it had to do with SQL, ODBC, and DBMS, but wasn't sure, and why the big secret?
I found some clues discussing the new release of Libre 4 (sound familiar?) at OS News.

Specifically, this one mentions Base needs it for JDBC, and this one mentions it's needed as a hook for compatibility primarily with MS Access a MS Office application.

I could also see it being needed for MS Excel, Project, and maybe Word, any program that has the capability to handle databases.

You would be surprised with how many people use databases in everyday life, even yourself.

Every time you start or reboot you machine you are invoking a database, i.e. Windows Registry.

First, let's take a look at just what the registry is and what function it provides. In much of Microsoft's documentation, the Microsoft® Windows® Registry is considered a central repository for configuration data. Just what does this mean? Well, I can't think of any better way to put it than by stating that it's simply a database for configuration files. The structure is hierarchical, meaning that configuration data is stored in order—much like a simple outline would be structured. Furthermore, each piece of data is stored in the outline as an order pair—that is, it has an associated name and a value assigned to it. It's very much the way all of your online transactions are conducted. You're assigned an account number (the name), and when you order, you've created a balance (the value).

Source: Tech Net | The Windows Registry
There are hints in the OS News thread I linked that the folks at Libre are working on a way to eliminate java completely and I have to agree with mjf about those VBMacros:

What do you think about a Visual Basic Macro compatibility workaround? I think the Excel macro issues are a big one for the business user. Get that solved and Office may become a dead duck.

Or do you have any other java-requiring database examples that most libreoffice users will relate to? That being my point.
