*cough* COOLNESS? *cough* Really? REALLY!? Maybe 20+ years ago that word applied (to Microsoft).

I DO however like the choreography in the commercials. Generally, I attribute that coolness to the ad agency.

Hi there

Why on Earth should people attack Bill Gates -- without him there would be NO Ms -- and he did wisely leaving at the right time --often an Entrepreneur needs to leave an established successful business - and old "Willie" has done his stuff by creating a foundation which probably gives more money out to decent causes than even some LARGE NATIONS !!.

Ballmer was a mess - but old Billie -- let him do his own thing --he's earned it. And to those who said he only made his money because of a mistake by IBM --that shows how good he was at the time -- exploit a gap or weakness in the market --you don't always have to be the CREATOR of something to earn money --it's how you develop and get the product to market.

Look at BETFAIR --one of the first "Betting Exchanges" who allowed people to both LAY HORSES (I.e say that the HORSE would NOT win) and allow "In Play" (i.e you can place your stake while the event is actually in progress) betting. Now whatever you think of the morals of this particular activity it has proved very successful and now loads of other people are trying to do the same.

You don't always have to be a "Geeky Nerd" to see a gap in the market. !!!

Cheers

If I remember correctly IBM didn't want anything to do with PC's.
Well a light lite and Mr. Bill had a idea of a PC in every home and office.
Then he coned IBM out of DOS and the rest is a well known story.

That is what is called a Entrepreneur with a serious case of foresight.

Thank you Mr. Bill Gates.

Hi there

HISTORY -- why not -- and what about people who missed it the first time around. We'd be all the worse if we just ignored everything that was more than a week old -- and I'll bet a LOT of people have searched on a question " I saw an article maybe a few months back ...." --we shouldn't take the Supermarket approach of "When it's Gone it's Gone !!".

I'm still doing a bit of research on the Roman PLINY the elder when reading about Modern Volcanoes -- and it's STILL relevant. His observations during the Vesuvius eruption of 79 A.D were STILL helpful recently in describing / predicting the effect of "Pyroclastic Flows" in modern Vulcanology -- Thank goodness a 2,000 year old "Thread" wasn't rendered obsolete. !!!

Having though lived and worked in Los Angeles (Santa Monica) for a while (and on the whole enjoyed it) I never could understand why anything about more than 50 years old was totally ignored and regarded as irrelevant !!!!. I suppose a Nation without a huge amount of History probably doesn't regard it as important.

Well said Jimbo. I used to be on the MSFN forums and I always hated how those turds I used to put up with there (including some admins) would complain about things like this, or topics discussed/bumped. I'm glad that I've moved on to a better set of Windows forums where I can converse with those of your ilk.
