New information suggests that Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 7 has been delayed until Q4 2010 – at the earliest…
Despite Windows Mobile 6.5 launching just this week, we’re keenly awaiting the next iteration of Redmond’s OS. Early reports on the system optimistically suggested that the first WinMo 7 handsets would make it to market by the end of 2009; we’ve since heard this date slip to April 2010, and now, late 2010.
According to
Microsoft Kitchen, the release date info surfaced during a Microsoft Office 2010 presentation to partners. The slide in question clearly shows a Release To Manufacturer (RTM) release date of Spring 2010.
If accurate, it means that it will be Q4 2010 at the earliest before manufacturers get the new Windows 7 handsets to launch.
Naturally, this does seem like an awfully long way away right now, and we can only imagine the leaps and bounds that competing operating systems will make in this time; Google’s Android has already been pegged for second spot in the OS wars by 2012 but with Windows Mobile 6.5 looking pretty slick already we’ll be waiting to see what the Washington giant has in store for us.
Oh, and Office 2010 will work on the new system too, but you knew that anyway.
