A reminder for those using the desktop version of Windows Live Messenger: On April 8, Microsoft will begin moving the tens of millions of users of its consumer instant-messaging service to Skype.

Microsoft will begin its worldwide phase-out of the desktop version of Messenger, starting with those in English-speaking countries, and ending with Portuguese. The entire "retirement" should be completed by April 30 or so, officials have said. (Skype officials are not providing a timetable as to when Microsoft plans to retire Messenger on mobile, Windows 8, Windows RT and/or multivendor platforms.)

Microsoft's Skype team has been prompting repeatedly via e-mail those who have not already proactively moved off Messenger about the impending phase-out.

I get the emails, I've already got the latest Skype, had an account there for a few years, also got Messenger with a Hotmail account had that quite some time as well.

have you merged your hotmail messenger and skype yet joan, means you have all your contacts in one place.
when live messenger dissapears on the 8th.

How to dock Windows Live Messenger next to the clock
I have my computer set to NOT stack items in the task bar. Whenever I have windows live messenger running, and I have the window open, there are two big tabs in the task bar; the window I have open, and the tab that is always displayed even if I have live minimized. Is there a way to dock it...
