Microsoft Mulling Nook Media LLC Purchase For $1 Billion

Quote:
Microsoft is offering to pay $1 billion to buy the digital assets of Nook Media LLC, the digital book and college book joint venture with Barnes & Noble and other investors, according to internal documents we’ve obtained. In this plan, Microsoft would redeem preferred units in Nook Media, which also includes a college book division, leaving it with the digital operation — e-books, as well as Nook e-readers and tablets.

Hi there
I think that would make a good deal of sense -- hopefully Ms would change the NOOK to be able to use the epub format and open up the virtual monopoly Amazon has on selling E-books.

Integration would be better with Windows as well --- the Kindle app (Amazon) works fine on Windows pretty well so Ms needs to do this properly.

E-books are definitely ON THE UP -- and strangely unlike other forms of digital media e-books aren't destroying purchase of Physical media (i.e REAL BOOKS) either. I find an e-reader almost indispensable but that doesn't stop be still buying the odd REAL book or too.

Good move for once for Ms.

Cheers
