I was reading another article on this, I hope they turn out to be great chips btw.

Here's an extract from the article -

AMD had a surprise for those attending the Electronics Entertainment Expo (E3) last night: the unveiling of two new flagship entries in its FX family of processors, including what the company claims is the world's first 5GHz processor.

Now, before you get too excited, there's a caveat there: while the Piledriver-based eight-core FX-9590 does indeed state on its box that it runs at 5GHz, it does so only under conditions suited to AMD's Turbo Core 3.0. The speed at which the chip runs when Turbo Core 3.0 can't be used - such as when all eight of the processing cores are fully loaded, or when the temperature of the chip reaches too high a level - is somewhat lower than that headline-grabbing figure.

Too bad it'll need a 240mm or better Radiator to cool that beast lol

In the first line, x86 piledriver core. Probably covered by what theveterans said, I'm just being a derp here.

We'll see when a review shows up. Hopefully, we don't need fancy cooling for this chip, and I'd be really impressed if this chip at its base frequency of 4.7 GHz can be stressed 24/7 on a stock AM3+ cooler.

Haswell has been a disappointment in the overclocking department from what I've seen.

While x86 refers to 32 bit in some cases (operating systems, etc.),

in this case it refers to an microprocessor architecture started by intel. and doesn't imply 32 or 64 bits.

Early on there were x86-16 (16 bit) processors, then x86-32 (32 bit), then x86-64/AMD84 (64 bit) and finally multi core.

x86 as in not ARM, at least that's the way I read it.

x86 or 8086 > 286 > 386 > 486 (ha ha) > 586 (start pentium) till now AMD interrupted this (or kicked the Giant in the toe) with the Athlon, which was 64 bit and still with x86 capable.
I think Intel wanted to either have 32 bit or 64 bit, but AMD disrupted that.

Could be interesting with both AMD and Intel annoying ARM. AMD making a "out of the box" 4.7G processor???? why?? If the power consumption is so high, I don't see the point.
But then they may have othr plans.. who knows, time will tell.

From what I've read, the Haswell's power consumption is only good at idle, at usage, it's more than the previous IvyBridge, but then that maybe because of the more powerful graphics part in it.

who knows, time will tell

yeah both phenom and athelon have 64-bit cores, not sure why the hell amd think its a good idea to take a "5gh" cpu and put it on a 32bit chipset. thats like taking a nvidia titan and trying to put it in a computer from like 2000
