The North Korean Tablet Computer Samjiyon: Hardware, Software and Resources | 38 North: Informed Analysis of North KoreaA few months ago the ever-growing community of those interested in the DPRK learned that there is now something like a local version of the iPad—the Samjiyon tablet computer (p’anhyŏng k’omp’yut’ŏ samjiyŏn).

It would appear that they are not as backward as folks have been thinking. . .
Hey man this looks dope especially the basketball app and the background wallpaper, I wonder if it comes with a nuclear missing launching app?
Jokes, I would support this product had it been co-developed with a more reputable company like ASUS, looked more streamlined (that tablet is fat) and is available to the rest of the world (no pun intended).
It's definitely interesting. it's surprisingly feature-comprehensive, which i suppose is a necessity due to North Korea's limited internet.
Hi there
You only have to look at their neighbours a few KM to the south (S. Korea) who has probably the BEST education system in the world (or at least one of the best) to realize that these folk are not in any way backward - apart from their political system. Remember how good the scientists etc were in the old Soviet Union too.
What we SHOULD be doing is everything in our power to get these people back on side instead of deliberately trying to antagonize them at every turn. The USA model isn't appropriate for every country (Nor is the N. Korean model thank goodness) but people do have different lifestyles and cultures -- we shaold take the best of all of them.
Before we get too smug let's remember that there are people living in some of the great US cities (Detroit for example springs to mind) who probably are WORSE OFF than some people living in N.Korea so we should be careful before condemning everything that happens in other places).
Cheers

I'm actually korean and yes, they do have one of the best education systems. And also, South Korea also has a tablet from a korean company but is made in china. that tablet is actually the one I'm writing from right now! I got it for free and it is actually pretty decent.
