DDR4 Next-gen memory. Next-gen performance.

The memory controller I suspect would be the main problem due to the different way the RAM stores and addresses data. DDR4 RAM will have much higher frequencies and higher Column Access latencies. The DDR4 stick I'm sure will have a different slot configuration as well.

So it looks like it will take new CPUs and boards. Memory controllers are in the CPU.

DDR3 is 240 pins and DDR4 is 280 pins and DDR4 is limited to one stick per channel and requires a different controller in the CPU. Rumors are that newer CPU's may have dual controllers to run DDR 3 and DDR4 memory but Motherboards will probably only support only one type.

I won't jump on the DDR4 bandwagon. I've read many would rather pass.
