Watch Microsoft buy it. After all, Winamp has "Win" in it.

I agree, the only thing that it unlocked was the "unlimited" ripping and burning speeds..........I think

    Oh much more than that:

    • Native video support including the most popular file formats for H.264 encoded video
    • Unrestricted Audio CD Burning & Ripping up to 48x
    • MP3 Encoding - the industry leading format

I also think you get to rip in FLAC should you prefer loss-less. There are a bunch of other little things but I have had pro for so long........

Winamp May Not Shut Down After All
AOL is reportedly finalizing talks to sell the legendary MP3 software.
    By Jared Newman @OneJaredNewmanDec. 20, 2013
    Time said:
We might have gotten all nostalgic for nothing, as Winamp will reportedly avoid being shut down today.

According to TechCrunch, AOL is “finalizing negotiations” to sell Winamp and the Shoutcast Internet radio service to an unnamed buyer. Both products would live on under the deal, says “a source with knowledge of the discussions.”

While the deal isn’t done yet, it’s apparently close. In the meantime AOL may keep the MP3 software on its servers beyond the announced shutdown date of December 20.

TechCrunch previously reported that Microsoft was interested in buying Winamp. It’s not clear whether that’s still the case.

Been using WINAMP for 10 years, just for my tunes. Downloaded the latest release both for full and lite just in case they really say goodbye.

Going open source would have been a great idea. We might see awesome forks from there.

AOL Sells Winamp And Shoutcast Music Services To Online Radio Aggregator Radionomy

Some more detail on the fate of Winamp and Shoutcast, the legacy digital music services that owner AOL (which also owns TechCrunch) originally planned to shut down but then halted pending a sale. They are not being bought by Microsoft, as we had heard when we first reported news of a sale. The properties are instead being acquired by Radionomy — an international aggregator of online radio stations headquartered in Brussels, Belgium.

Well, no needs to worry anymore about M$ making WinAmp into a Win 8 clone.
