That's just the latest version that's available for download until the 20th December, so after that date it'll be one of the locations to still be able to download Winamp.

Winamp went dead here around 2002. I got sick of its problems and moved on. So did most others. And so this "news" isn't really news.

    Earth to margrave.

Obviously you can get Winamp at Winamp dot com but there are some official add on's you can get from here:

Winamp Essentials Pack Free Download - Audio Plugins
What is the installer actually called?

I'm offered something called, "Winamp_Essentials_6_7_8_9_10.exe", not "Winamp Essentials Pack 5.6".

    .
That is correct. Typical Winamp crazy numbering scheme.

no need to stop using it, it just wont be updated. im using it right now

having said that the petition reached 40,000 the other day and there are a number of devs and software programmers that have stepped forward to work with it if AOL will allow it to go open source
    Hi there.

Not really sure WHAT it needs in future --IMO it's a complete product -- anybody attempting to introduce a new Audio Codec these days would probably be taken to the nearest public City Square and Hanged Drawn and Quartered in public so I can't see support for extra codecs coming in - or even needed.

I've seen far too many products being updated with load of "features" that you don't need and where the Interface has changed horribly -- I'm sure long time users of Acronis for example if they can remember the old Workstation versions as they were called back then had a far superior cleaner interface to the current ATH versions.

As for bloatware - just look at NERO -- I've stuck with V9 - the last "clean" version that still works on W8.1.

Incidently full marks to the poster who said keep all your old versions and installers --I've seen increasingly these days a lot of previously FREE software versions of paid products now being hard to find --often the current web sites don't mention them at all - and where they do the latest "free" version is full of Nagware urging you to upgrade and "go Pro".

I keep a separate folder called Installables and in that have versions of products plus .iso images if these products were originally supplied on DVD / CD. Updates I keep in separate sub folders.

Note though another trend I hate is that some people now only supply the installer which then connects to a website - you can't download the product separately for a local install - Horrible trend -so if you can please AVOID BUYING or SUPPORTING people who make you install that way.

Anyway getting back to topic - WINAMP will still work long after your current (and next one too) machine has been replaced - there's nothing more IMO it needs to add. Leave it as an AUDIO player - don't try and compete with VLC by adding video codecs so it can be used as a video player.

    Cheers

    Hi there
The PRO version (winamp5666_full_all_exe) is still downloadable on the site - so if you need to get the last release available download it now.
