Give me pretty GUI along with those under the hood improvements and i'll upgrade to anything.

Unless they bring back Aero and glass, or at least get rid of the kindegarten flat, boring blocky look and feel, I won't be considering any move back to windows. Other things like a task manager with alzheimers, a gutted explorer, and a lack of accessible controls for configuring things without having to resort to registry hacks don't motivate me to consider windows any more either

Windows 8 should have been sold in two formats; a desktop (Aero-like) version, and a tablet (Metro) version. Windows 8 works well on tablets.

Maybe MS market research dept is asleep or fixated on new-toys.

If Win7 is outselling Win8.x ... MS cannot blame the tablet/android market.
