Razer's modular Project Christine makes building PCs as easy as building Legos

Itís a tree! Itís a ribcage! Itís...an incredibly modular desktop computer that allows users to easily swap in new components with minimal computer knowledge? And itís designed by Razer?

Wow.

Razerís calling the concept Project Christine, and promises to open up the full power of PC hardware even to those with no technical knowledge.

Each of the branches on this industrial tree is a discrete componentóa CPU, a GPU, a hard drive, memoryóthat simply plugs into the central backbone. Once slotted in, Project Christine automatically syncs the newly added module through the magic of PCI-Express (the same bus that discrete graphics cards currently use).

That is cool but will probably be expensive because you do not have a choice for sourcing your bits. I like to buy when they offer specials - like today they had a 120GB SSD for $69 at Newegg. But you had to get up at 3AM EST because later they were already all sold out, LOL.

I think it was this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820721107

Nice idea but ugly as sin. Can you imagine trying to keep it dusted?

You have to shrink wrap it.

Good idea! That way, you have to worry about any heat getting out.

Yeah it's a little unsightly, but it's pretty cool!

Great idea! Basically the same as Phonebloks but then for computers.
Too bad it's created by Razer. IMHO everything but their headsets is total crap, I mean, they use (and have admitted this) the people that purchase their products as beta testers and knowingly ship products that are a long way for being ready to be used by the general public.

Interesting, but I question the timing of this. We aren't we being conditioned to think of desktops as being obsolete?
