Intel Edison is a full computer on an SD card, launching in 2014

    Posted: 09 Jan 2014
Intel CEO Brian Krzanich used the stage at his first CES keynote address to announce the company's new smart product lines, and in addition revealed Intel Edison -- a 400MHz computer board that fits into an SD card.

The Edison chip supports Linux and includes a dual-core CPU, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth LE (low energy) and an integrated app store. It will be available in "the middle of 2014" according to Krzanich, and will allow creators of hardware products to enhance the functionality of their existing or new systems by incorporating Edison's processing power.

Maybe all appliances will have a slot for a Edison to plug in and the whole house will be as one master brain connected with our smart clothes and monitors.......step towards the bathroom and the seat will warm the TP will unroll the lights will turn on and the mirrors will turn to motion sensitive monitors !

Edit that: the toilet will be a no paper bidet with auto bum dryer and self cleaning, what was i thinking...toilet paper!

Adding to the scene unfolding above a light mist of PooPourri is dusted over the water of the commode in rapt anticipation.

Serious, I had a couple of thumbs involved in designing that Edison chip.

This might actually work pretty well as a modular integrated system. Say if a TV had an Edison running netflix and other streaming services. If newer ones come out that, say for example, use more efficient video codecs that better compress the stream; the edison chip can be popped out for a newer model that has hardware acceleration for that codec. Or maybe the chip could have different versions of varying power, depending on how smart you want your TV.
